Description
Phone & Taxi
Carry a pocket phone, call a yellow taxi, and let a talking villager driver take you to your saved destinations. Bring your items along, customize your display name, and open useful apps on your phone.
The expanded Overworld taxi service described below requires Phone & Taxi 0.2.1 or newer.
Features
- NPC taxi rides: Save up to eight personal destinations. A yellow taxi arrives nearby, picks you up and drives to your stop.
- Villager driver: Greetings, destination announcements, ride chatter and arrival messages, with Minecraft villager voice sounds.
- Persistent cargo: Load or unload 27 slots of personal storage. Items remain saved when a ride ends or is cancelled and can be collected from your next taxi.
- Custom display names: Change the name shown on your phone, in chat, in the player list and above your own character in F5 third-person view. Your real Minecraft account name and UUID stay unchanged.
- Phone App Store: Install or remove the five included apps: Taxi, Cargo, MineBroser, Clock and Calculator.
- MineBroser: A real embedded Chromium browser powered by Rinku, with typing, clicking, searching, back/forward, reload and a custom "Welcome To MineBroser" home page.
Requirements
- Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1
- NeoForge 21.1.259 or later 21.1.x
- Java 21
- Rinku 3.0.4 for NeoForge 1.21.1 on the client
Install Phone & Taxi on both the client and server for multiplayer. A dedicated server does not need Rinku. Rinku downloads Chromium on first launch, so allow its download screen to finish. Use Rinku as this instance's browser dependency; classic MCEF contains overlapping CEF classes.
Getting started
- Get Phone from Creative mode under Tools & Utilities, or use
/give @s phonetaxi:phonewith cheats enabled. - Stand beside an open, flat road and choose Phone → Taxi → Save here. Use
/taxi save Homefor a custom stop name. - Walk 20–40 blocks away, open Taxi and choose the saved destination.
- Right-click your taxi to board. Sneak to leave early.
- Sneak + right-click the taxi or open Cargo on the phone to load and unload items. Stay within eight blocks of your own taxi.
Creative rides are free. Survival rides cost 1 + ceil(distance / 64) emeralds (capped at five), charged when boarding. Cancelling, leaving early or an interrupted trip refunds the fare. The taxi waits one minute after arrival so you can unload.
Open Phone → Settings to change your display name. Use 3–16 letters, numbers or underscores. Press F5 twice to see your character from the front with the name above your head.
Open App Store to install MineBroser, Clock or Calculator. Taxi and Cargo start installed. These are bundled apps; the store does not download third-party executable apps.

Prototype limits
This is an early prototype. Taxi service works in any world save, only in its Overworld and inside its existing world border. There is no fixed ride-distance limit. Long rides physically drive in short surface-route sections and fares cap at five emeralds (free in Creative). Distant destinations no longer need to stay loaded. The mod does not change the terrain or world border and does not create permanent forced chunks. Use wide, flat, dry roads or open fields. Stops need a clear 3-by-3 area and three blocks of overhead clearance. Tight corners, stairs, water, cliffs and closed gates may block the Minecraft pathfinding.
Villager speech is readable dialogue with villager sounds. MineBroser is a single browser view; compatibility with every website, pop-up or DRM video service is not guaranteed. Browser pages load locally on each player's computer.
The taxi geometry and phone are original. The driver and car use Minecraft-style textures. This project does not include the Sketchfab taxi model.
Unofficial Minecraft mod; not affiliated with Mojang, Microsoft, Apple or Google.
