Description
Pumps & Pistons
Pump it. Refine it. Move it.
Survey finite underground oil, extract crude with a compact pumpjack, refine petrol and diesel, and build a working service station. Pumps & Pistons is a standalone Fabric fuel ecosystem: no vehicle mod is required, and terrain generation stays unchanged.
Illustrated field manual
Eight illustrated sheets, available in 18 languages. Follow the complete fuel loop with real item renders, labelled machine ports and practical operating instructions.

| Start here | What you will learn |
|---|---|
| The fuel loop | From a surveyed oil field to usable fuel |
| Find and extract | Surveying, shared reserves and the pumpjack |
| Refine | Ports, heating, batch yields and residue |
| Build a service station | Fuel storage, pump designation and the forecourt kit |
| Vehicles and consumption | Refuelling, engines and driving with the optional Automobility integration |
| Transfers and roads | Industrial hose connections and bitumen-based road surfaces |

Fuel loop
Pick up copper and iron ingots to discover the production equipment in the crafting table’s recipe book. Later materials reveal the remaining recipes.
- Use the reusable Petroleum Survey Kit to inspect the current oil-field region and its neighbours.
- Place a redstone-powered Compact Oil Pumpjack inside a discovered field and collect crude in its 100 L buffer.
- Move liquids with reusable 20 L jerry cans or an industrial transfer hose.
- Process 10 L batches in the Compact Fuel Refinery, heated with ordinary furnace fuel.
- Choose petrol-focused, balanced or diesel-focused yields between batches, and collect useful bitumen residue.
- Store fuel in a 400 L service pump designated AUTO, PETROL or DIESEL.
These are the default capacities. Oil fields are finite and shared by every pumpjack in the same region; reserves persist with the world. Machines operate in loaded chunks, without chunk forcing or offline extraction.
Hold right mouse to transfer between a can and a pump, and release to pause. Sneak-use with a can changes the pump's designation.
Inspect and move equipment
Right-click a fuel machine with a pickaxe to inspect its contents and relocation state. Pumpjacks explain missing redstone, full storage and depleted fields; refineries show their tanks, remaining heat and current batch.
In survival, attempting to mine a machine that still holds liquids, stored heat or an active batch stops the break and explains what remains. Drain the liquids and finish processing before moving equipment. Dropped machines do not carry their contents.
To deliberately discard the contents after a blocked attempt, sneak-right-click the same machine with a pickaxe, then mine it while sneaking within 10 seconds. Adding resources cancels that confirmation. Hidden chat receives a short notice; enable chat for the complete instructions. Creative removal and existing building permissions retain their normal rules.
Build your station
The forecourt kit supports anything from a rural roadside pump to a larger multiplayer service area:
- a live analogue pump gauge, fuel lamp and comparator output;
- walkable canopy panels, warm lit panels and connected columns;
- seamless neutral, PETROL and DIESEL fascia runs;
- bollards, wheel stops, low kerbs and flush drain grates;
- two-block roadside pylons and directional canopy floodlights.
Decorative blocks use static states rather than ticking block entities.
The optional Pumps & Pistons: Automobility integration adds persistent vehicle tanks, deliberate refuelling, configurable survival consumption and a coordinated dashboard. The production system remains usable on its own.
Requirements
Use the build for your Minecraft version and install it on the server and every connecting client. Java 25 is required.
| Minecraft Java | Fabric Loader | Fabric API |
|---|---|---|
| 26.1.2 | 0.19.2 or newer | 0.152.1+26.1.2 or a compatible newer build |
| 26.2 | 0.19.3 or newer | 0.153.0+26.2 or a compatible newer build |
The core does not require Automobility. If you add the integration, use the same core and integration release for the same Minecraft version.
Upgrading
The pumps_and_pistons namespace has been used since 1.9. Remove old monolithic or split 1.8 JARs before installing a current build. Old 1.8 block, item, configuration and reservoir identifiers are not migrated. Always keep the core and optional Automobility integration versions matched.
