Description
Four independently configurable terrain quadrants in one dimension
Feature
Quadra Gen is a mod for creative servers that gives each of the four quadrants of a single dimension its own terrain-generation logic. It lets one dimension contain natural terrain and flat terrain at the same time, plus a mode that keeps biome and structure ranges but generates no blocks or entities, to satisfy various terrain needs.
With the default configuration, the four quadrants behave as follows:
| Quadrant | Default mode | Default result |
|---|---|---|
+X, +Z |
Noise | Vanilla natural terrain of the current dimension |
-X, +Z |
Noise clear | Empty terrain that keeps vanilla biomes, theoretical terrain, and structure data |
-X, -Z |
Flat | Empty minecraft:the_void Flat terrain |
+X, -Z |
Flat | One layer of white stained glass; minecraft:plains in the Overworld, minecraft:nether_wastes in the Nether |
The Overworld and Nether have independent settings. The End and custom dimensions are not affected.
Supported Mod Platform: Fabric. No extra dependency is needed. The server must install Quadra Gen; client installation is optional. Clients without it can join, while installing it improves client-side details such as horizon height.
Supported Minecraft versions:
- 1.14.4, 1.15.2, 1.16.5, 1.17.1, 1.18.2, and 1.19.4
- 1.20.1, 1.20.2, 1.20.4, and 1.20.6
- 1.21.1, 1.21.3, 1.21.4, 1.21.5, 1.21.8, 1.21.10, and 1.21.11
- 26.1.2, 26.2, …
See docs/features.md for a detailed description of the features and behaviors.
Usage
- Download the published Quadra Gen jar and place it in the server's
modsfolder. - To customize the layout of dimensions or quadrants, prepare or edit
config/quadragen/config.jsonbefore creating the world. If the config file does not exist, Quadra Gen copies the bundled default configuration into place and enables it. - Start the server and create the world, and enjoy a world with different terrain in each quadrant, generated by Quadra Gen.
See docs/config.md for the full configuration reference.
Notes
Save compatibility
Enabling Quadra Gen on an existing world only affects newly generated chunks, which are generated according to the quadrant configuration. Completed chunks are never rebuilt, cleared, or converted.
The following table summarizes the expected behavior:
| Situation | Quadra Gen action | Existing chunks | New chunks / unfinished generation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Existing natural-terrain save | Install the mod | Kept as they are | Generated according to the current quadrant configuration |
| Existing vanilla Flat save | Install the mod | Kept as they are | Kept as they are. Quadra Gen does not support Flat saves; convert its underlying world type to the vanilla Noise one manually first if needed |
| Save generated with Quadra Gen | Remove the mod | Kept as they are and remain readable | Generated with vanilla logic |
| Save generated with Quadra Gen | Change the configuration | Kept as they are | Generated according to the new configuration |
Quadra Gen does not modify the save format, so saves processed by Quadra Gen remain fully vanilla-compatible. Still, making a backup before changing anything is recommended.
In-game behavior
Some notable behaviors:
- All four quadrants share one dimension state. Time, weather, game rules, and the mob cap remain shared across the whole dimension.
- The axes are terrain-generation boundaries only, not gameplay boundaries. Entities, fluids, redstone, and other mechanics can freely cross the axes.
- The generation boundary is not completely strict. Vanilla structures and decoration can extend a limited distance across an axis.
- Flat quadrants do not generate structures or lakes.
