Description

Quota Gate

Part of the Resonance series, next to Void Recycler.

Your furnace array needs 64 coal, not 9,000. Your potion brewer wants 4 buckets of water, not a full tank. Quota Gate is one small block you put in front of any chest, barrel, drawer, tank or machine: it lets through exactly as much as its rules allow and politely refuses the rest.

It never ticks. The quota is checked inside the insertion your pipe already performs, so it works with any pipe of any mod, and an idle gate costs nothing.

Features

  • Keep at most N: per item, per exact item (enchantments, potions, names), per item tag (#logs) or per fluid (in mB). Up to 9 rules per gate.
  • Speed limit: N items or buckets per second, still without ticking.
  • Quota Card: copy settings from one gate and paste them onto others.
  • Three modes
    • KEEP MAX: listed resources up to their limit, everything else stays in the pipe.
    • PASS ONLY: whitelist or blacklist, no limits.
    • OVERFLOW: the quota goes into the target, everything else into the block on a side you choose.
  • Any pipe, any mod: uses the NeoForge transfer API. Pipes that simulate first get correct answers; aborted transfers roll back cleanly.
  • Zero lag: no ticker, no polling. Per insertion: up to 9 comparisons and one pass over the target's slots. Optional count cache for huge storages.
  • Redstone: signal stops / inverted / ignored / pulse when the first quota fills. A comparator reads how full the first quota is (0–15).
  • Easy GUI: ghost slots (click with an item, the item stays on your cursor), shift-click from your inventory, JEI drag & drop, type limits with the keyboard or use the wheel, live fill bars X / N, the target block shown on the output button. Turn the output with a button or Shift + right click.
  • Keeps its rules when broken and placed again.
  • Owner lock: everyone / team / owner only for the GUI and breaking.
  • Modpack-friendly: tag #quota_gate:never_limit, data map quota_gate:default_limits, server config.
  • Tech-minimalist dark GUI drawn in code. English and Russian.

How it works

  1. A pipe inserts into the gate.
  2. The gate counts what the target (the block its output faces) already holds of that resource.
  3. It forwards min(amount, limit − current) into the target in the same transaction, and in OVERFLOW mode the rest to the side.
  4. If the pipe cancels, everything rolls back together.

Place it by clicking the chest: the output faces the block you click on.

Crafting

Quota Card: iron nugget, paper, redstone (in a column).

Quota Gate: 5 iron ingots, comparator, hopper, 2 redstone.

Config

serverconfig/quota_gate-server.toml (also in game: Mods → Quota Gate → Config)

Option Default Meaning
max_rules 9 Active rule cards (1–9)
allow_overflow true false = OVERFLOW acts like KEEP MAX
count_cache_ticks 0 0 = exact count on every insertion; >0 = reuse the count for N ticks (huge storages)

Client: gui_animations, item_tooltips.

Tags & data maps

  • #quota_gate:never_limit (item tag): these items always go straight through, whatever the rules.
  • quota_gate:default_limits (item data map): starting limit of a new rule. For buckets it is the fluid limit in mB.
{ "values": { "minecraft:water_bucket": { "limit": 4000 }, "#minecraft:logs": 128 } }

Compatibility

  • Any pipe on the NeoForge 26.1 transfer API, vanilla hoppers and droppers included.
  • Tested pipes: vanilla hopper. [after testing: add Pipez / LaserIO / … here]
  • JEI (optional), Jade (optional): mode and X / N per rule, passed counter.

Changelog 1.0.0

  • Initial release: KEEP MAX, PASS ONLY, OVERFLOW; item, tag and fluid rules; redstone kill-switch; comparator; owner lock; rules kept on the item; JEI and Jade; never_limit tag and default_limits data map; server config.
