About

Description

There are two new world types in the current versions of this mod. Both have a similar theme, but a totally different way to generate the terrain.

-Old Ice Mountains (IceMountains): The old version of the terrain generation. It is not too fancy. But for the sake of not throwing it out the window, i kept it in the mod. This version does not simulate erosion. It simply consists of 3 perlin noise functions which are overlapping. Known issue: moutains can exceed a height of 256 blocks, which will result in them being chopped off.

-Ice Mountains (IceMountainsE): The new version of the terrain generation. If you start a new world with a new seed, expect to wait around 3 minutes. It will generate 4 heightmaps which cover an area of 4096x4096 blocks. Within that area, the terrain will be generated quite quickly. It is not a bug. In order to simulate erosion properly, a large area needs to be taken into account at once. So chunk per chunk generation is simply not possible like in the old version. However, that should not discourage you from playing on that world type. There are not many biomes yet. So far only forests, swamps, oceans and of course the ice mountains.

And just for fun: Some massive Chunky renders (IceMountainsE v0.2)!

  • Old Ice Mountains
Old Ice Mountains From the very first versions of this mods. Just simple perlin noise. I do not really recommend this world type. But it is quite a good demonstration of what 3 simple noise functions can do in combination. Height map, temperature map and fertility map.
  • Swamp render
Swamp render Swamps deserve their own nice Chunky render too.
  • Logo image in 4K
Logo image in 4K Just because its such a nice scene...
  • The whole map
The whole map All screenshots come from the same world. The seed of which is -1468060864668855359. Here is a 16384x16384 block part of the map rendered out. Could this be the largest map ever rendered with Chunky?
  • All current biomes
All current biomes All current biomes near each other.
  • Swamp
Swamp A swamp close to the edge. There is no or at least less gravel further within the swamp. Swamp trees can also generate in shallow water.
  • Swamp from above
Swamp from above Swamps usually generate between oceans and mountains.
  • Ocean
Ocean Oceans have small islands everywhere. You usually do not have to travel far to find land.
  • Large lake in the forest
Large lake in the forest Yep, its the scene from the logo. Just in the actual game.
  • Icy Mountains
Icy Mountains These used to be the focus of the mod. I decided to add more variety later.
