The Rot
No reviews yet
A heavly W.I.P. infection mod that brings the rot from Rain World to Minecraft!
Fabric is a mod loader for versions 1.14+ of Minecraft, particularly popular for client side and optimization mods.

Description
Creator Note
-
The Rot does NOT begin spreading on its own. This is why the mod is currently in Alpha. To start an infection, enter Creative Mode and right-click a block using the Cursor Wand.
-
I am currently just using modrinth/curseforge to act as a way for people to playtest and give feedback!
-
Requires Fabric API and Fabric Kotlin Language. I still haven't found a clean badge for Fabric Kotlin. :P
-
This will almost certainly destroy your world. Please test in a backup or disposable world.
-
Constructive criticism, feedback, feature requests, suggestions, bug reports, and contributions are always welcome and greatly appreciated!
Less Important Creator Notes
- I do very much have a mental health battle, so please be patient as I develop the mod. :)
- Rainworld o.o
- I closed the original Discord server. The new invite leads to Stoat Development, a small hobby team where I continue development.
Plan List
Backend Stuff
- Switching to stonecutter, which is essentially makes multi versions/loaders easier to manage and develop upon. Which does also mean I plan (atleast for 1.21.1 and higher) to support neoforge as well!
Cluster System
- Rot will naturally generate clusters.
- Each cluster contains a central Heart/Seed.
- Destroying the Heart stops that cluster from spreading and causes it to harden.
- The exact implementation is still being worked out, and feedback is always appreciated.
Intelligent Spreading / Less Noisy Spreading
- Spread toward light sources, like a little moth for example?
- Prefer player-built structures.
- In general have spread feel less random and more organic like.
Rotted Mobs
- Designed for combat and spreading the infection.
- Maybe like crawlers that repair dead tissue, or hunters that guard the rot. (I might be getting out of track with rainworld.)
Rot Cancer
- The infection mechanic affecting mobs and potentially players.
- Inspired by Hunter's infection and the Watcher DLC from Rain World.
- Surviving the infection will be challenging. Have fun trying to cure it!! :33
More Rot Decorations
- Rotted leaves.
- Plants.
- Flowers.
- Anything to give it personality or whatevers.
Latest Version: Alpha 1.0 – QoL Update
Out for minecraft 1.21.1 & 1.20.1. PLEASE do give feedback!
Switched to Kotlin
- Rewrote the mod in Kotlin.
- Cleaned up old development code and removed leftover debugging and prototype code.
Enhanced Block Spread System
- Significantly improved performance.
- General improvements to spreading behavior.
Better Textures
- Converted block textures from 32×32 to 16×16.
- Improved texture quality.
- Looking back, I'm not sure why I chose 32×32. ;w;
Configuration
- Added configuration support using MidnightLib.
This update doesn't introduce much new gameplay. It focuses on improving the foundation of the mod for future content updates. There will most likely be another similar case, with maybe adding support for neoforge.
Modpack Permission
You are free to include Rot in your modpacks. :333
Attribution is appreciated, but not required!
However, I dont really recommend using the mod in modpacks YET. It is still in Alpha, ofc and major changes, adjustments, and annoying bugs are to be expected. This is after all just a way to have people playtest the mod! Here be dragons!
