Description
Royal-mon Z-A
By MesteSan. Turn selected parts of your world into nighttime Cobblemon tournaments: red holographic boundaries, two arena passages, permanent ranks and optional ranked trainer challenges.
Nighttime tournaments
Administrators define connected arenas by selecting chunks in the Overworld. At night, all arenas or a configurable random selection become active. Each active arena has one fixed passage and one roaming passage that changes side between active nights. Terrain checks keep passages away from obstacles; unsafe arenas are skipped or replaced when another suitable arena is available.
Enter an active arena and battle wild Pokemon or trainers to earn points. Leaving keeps your current night's points, but entering again that night resets them. At dawn, the remaining night points are banked permanently. Battles must begin and finish in the same participation to award tournament points. Captures, escapes and interrupted battles do not award tournament points.
Victory points depend on the defeated Pokemon's evolution stage: Pichu gives 10, Pikachu 20 and Raichu 30; species without an evolution family give 20. Completed defeats give 2 points by default. Ranks progress from Z to A, with 100 points per rank by default. Wild levels can scale to nearby participants' ranks, reaching 80–100 at rank A, and return to their natural levels outside the event.
Arena atmosphere
- Red projected boundaries with a uniform reference height through existing buildings.
- Server-side boundary enforcement outside the two passages.
- Block placement across active boundaries and inside passages is blocked, including multi-block placements such as beds.
- A compact rank and score HUD; press F8 to move or resize it and adjust sounds/music.
- Center-screen announcements and rank-up sound effects.
- Neon Circuit, an original looping electronic track while inside an active arena; it stops on exit or at dawn. It follows Minecraft's Music volume setting.
- English and French interfaces, selected through the player's game language.
Ranked phone challenges
Use the craftable Royal Z-A Rotom Phone anywhere, including during the day, to view your rank and points. Players of the same exact rank can propose a point wager. Both players must agree before a remote Cobblemon battle starts. Only banked points can be wagered; the winner receives the opponent's stake. Forfeiting or disconnecting loses the stake.
If Cobblemon Smartphone is installed, a Royal Z-A app appears in its phone interface. The standalone phone remains available. Both interfaces use the same scores and challenge rules.
Optional custom NPC trainers
With TBCS, RCT API and Easy NPC, register an existing NPC and a team already loaded in TBCS as a ranked opponent. Assign its rank, point reserve, fixed stake and challenge limit per player. The default is one challenge per player per NPC. Attempts persist across nights and restarts. A failed battle start restores the attempt; a started battle consumes it. An NPC accepts eligible challenges automatically and appears to players of its assigned rank. Doppler NPCs are supported.
The original NPC stays in place. Remote battles use a copied team and a temporary invisible local support entity; the distant trainer's model is not teleported beside the player. The NPC's points are a finite reserve that administrators can refill.
Installation and compatibility
Install the same Royal-mon Z-A JAR on both the server and every client, or in your single-player instance. Replace older versions rather than keeping multiple copies. Back up your world before updating.
Required:
- Minecraft 1.21.1, Java 21, NeoForge 21.1.250+ within the 1.21.1 branch.
- Cobblemon 1.8.1 for NeoForge.
- Kotlin for Forge, as required by Cobblemon; tested with 5.12.0.
Optional integrations, tested with:
- Cobblemon Smartphone 1.1.3-patch1.8.0.
- TBCS 0.15.0-beta.
- RCT API 0.16.1-beta.
- Easy NPC 7.12.1 (Core, Config UI and Bundle), plus the dependencies required by those mods; Architectury 13.0.11 was used for testing.
Use NeoForge builds of every dependency. This release does not support Fabric or Forge. Optional integrations are not needed for the core tournament. No dependency JAR is included.
Quick start for administrators
Commands that edit arena geometry require operator level 2 and daytime. Stand at the intended ground height in the Overworld:
/time set day
/royalza create downtown
/royalza add downtown
Move to each adjacent chunk and repeat the last command. Chunks must remain connected. Stand near a clear boundary to choose its fixed passage:
/royalza gate fixed downtown
/royalza height downtown 64
/royalza activezones 3
/royalza zones
/time set night
Replace 64 with your arena's ground height; that command sets a uniform visual reference. Leave a supported, four-block-wide, three-block-high corridor around the gates. activezones 3 requests three arenas at the next night, activezones all enables all suitable arenas, and activezones 0 disables the next event. A count change does not interrupt the current night.
Player commands:
/royalza score
/royalza leaderboard
/give @s royalmonza:motismart
The phone is also craftable: top row iron/copper/iron, middle row redstone/glass/redstone, bottom row iron/redstone/iron.
Register an NPC after creating its character and loading its TBCS team:
/royalza npc add <NPC-UUID> "tbcs:flora" Y 200 20 1
/royalza npc list
/royalza npc limit <NPC-UUID> 2
/royalza npc points <NPC-UUID> 500
/royalza npc remove <NPC-UUID>
Replace <NPC-UUID> and tbcs:flora with your actual NPC UUID and registered team ID. The example gives rank Y, a 200-point reserve, a 20-point stake and one attempt per player. An entity selector must target exactly one NPC. Raising the limit preserves previous attempts. Removing and re-registering the same UUID preserves its history. Names and portraits can be refreshed by registering again.
Server settings include rankStep, lossPoints and scaleWildLevels in royalmonza-server.toml. Tournament data is saved with the world in data/royalmonza.dat; client HUD preferences use config/royalmonza-hud.json.
Current limitations and support
Arenas are Overworld-only. This is not a full land-claim system: pistons, administrator commands and terrain changes by other mods are not comprehensively protected. Obstructed or unsuitable gates can reduce the requested arena count. Non-humanoid NPCs may use a fallback portrait. Shader compatibility and every custom RCT team gimmick have not been verified. Other mods retain control of their battle music.
