The Echoes shows the Past

The Echoes Show the Past is an exploration mod about ruins that still remember what they used to be.

You craft a Low-Frequency Resonator (copper, amethyst, a calibrated sculk sensor, and an echo shard) and send a slow pulse. Distant Echo Pedestals answer with a ping and a beam in the sky. Wool on the face the pulse hits silences that direction.

The resonator has three sockets:

• Range Coil — farther, but you wait longer for the echo
• Directional Matrix — only searches where you're looking
• Cycle Regulator — faster pulse

There's also a Harmonic Decoder (known sites answer with a name and a color; you can mute the ones you don't need) and a Harmonic Key for a buried frequency the resonator can't hear on its own.

The Past Echo is a reliquary. Sneak-use it to put a Fragment of the Past in. An empty fragment captures what's around you. A filled one, used near where you captured it, shows only the blocks that are gone or different.

Ruins don't drop a random gadget. The pedestal already holds a sealed memory of the intact site. Take it, socket it, and you can walk the wreck with the old layout overlaid. Memories you captured yourself can be forgotten by crafting the fragment alone. The sealed ruin ones can't.

There are six sites in the Overworld. Each one has a small biome painted under it so the world doesn't grow back through the building, and each one has two versions: the wreck you find today and the intact place sitting on the pedestal.

Present-day chests are mostly empty. The better loot is in the past. Resonant Filament comes from site chests; you need it for resonator upgrades and for the key.

Medusa is still on her island. Wear a carved pumpkin or she turns you to stone. Her snakes poison. Kill her for the fragment and a living Head of Medusa.

The living head petrifies whatever you look at, players and bosses included. It's not balanced for PvP — it's meant to be fun, and a pumpkin still protects. Mining a Medusa statue without Silk Touch drops a brittle Petrified Head of Medusa (five uses; bosses ignore it). Silk Touch keeps the statue. You can pick statues up and place them. Petrification doesn't wear off.

There's a server config if you want to turn off player or boss petrification.

Three fragments and a filament make a Harmonic Key. Seat it in the resonator, ping again, and a buried crypt answers. The key breaks the seal. The portal inside leaves the Overworld.

What waits there doesn't have a name. It fights you through three eras — medieval, Greek, Egyptian — and each one falls apart while you're still in it. Win and you get the Philosopher's Stone.

Leave the Stone on any echo pedestal that still has a sealed memory and the ruin rebuilds: rooms, past loot, and the people or statues that belonged there. Use the same pedestal with an empty hand to take the Stone back.
