Throw those fished up critters back into the water!
Data Packs were introduced to vanilla Minecraft in version 1.13 and allow the server to modify data about the game, or run commands. Data Packs are compatible with all mod loaders.

Save the fish!
Would you like to catch neat treasures using just some sticks and string? Do you feel bad for the poor fish that happen to get caught on your hook?
Well, I have good news! With this data pack, you can release the fish back into the water, or take them home as pets if you wish!
Just put the fish item and an empty bucket in your crafting window and voilá! You get a corresponding fish in a bucket, with which you can simply release the fish as a mob!
This also allows you to revive killed fish! However, custom names are not preserved.
Why an EMPTY bucket?
As releasing a fish from a bucket can also place water, you might think that using an empty bucket in the recipe causes unnecessary water duplication. However, were I to use a water bucket in the recipe then the crafting would result in an empty bucket would remain in the crafting window, resulting in even more broken bucket duplication (this is a quirk of Minecraft)! And I am too inexperienced to figure out how to avoid that... whoops.
Mod Support
Currently, no mod support is planned. If a mod adds fish mobs, items, and corresponding fish buckets I could add them.
Fox' Utilities
This is only my second publicly released data pack. It is also part of a series of small utility data packs (called Fox' Utilities) that I plan to release in the coming weeks or so.
