Description

Recruits - Scorched Guns Compatibility

Ever wanted your Recruits Crossbowmen to use Scorched Guns 2 firearms without randomly running around, ignoring orders, or firing in completely wrong direction? Well, now they can!

This compatibility addon connects the two mods into a more complete combat system. Crossbowmen can use Scorched Guns 2 firearms while continuing to obey their normal Recruits commands and navigation behavior.

What does it do?

It fixes the behavior/goal conflict between the two mods + other minor fixes here and there.

Recruits remains responsible for commands such as Wander, Follow, Hold, Hold Fire, Fire At Will, Strategic Fire, Hold Strategic Fire, and other group commands while Scorched Guns 2 keeps control of its normal firing, projectile, magazine, and reload behavior.

The addon also includes:

  • Finite ammunition taken from the recruit’s own inventory (to enable set "RangedRecruitsNeedArrowsToShoot = true" in official Villager Recruits server-config file)
  • Support for each gun’s correct ammunition type and alternate ammo modes
  • Partial magazines when the recruit does not have enough ammunition for a full reload
  • Persistent reload progress during brief target loss or target switching
  • Ammunition restocking through the Recruits upkeep inventory
  • Fourteen configurable weapon profiles with separate engagement ranges and accuracy values
  • Small, configurable range and precision improvements as recruits level up
  • Nearest-visible-target prioritization and reduced target-switching flicker
  • Aim-before-fire synchronization so recruits do not shoot before their body and weapon face the target
  • Native colored Scorched Guns 2 laser beams instead of generic white projectile trails
  • Configurable heavy-laser beam width
  • Heavy laser beams anchored directly to the exact muzzle-flash center
  • Custom two-handed poses for heavy-weapons
  • Corrected heavy-weapon barrel and muzzle-flash placement

The mod does not replace Scorched Guns 2 projectile damage or collision handling. Its normal projectiles remain responsible for actual hits and damage.

NOTE: The projectile trajectory of heavy weapons is set to the same height as other firearms (higher than the barrel of heavy-weapons) so that single block barricade wont get in a way (or at least do so less frequently). Since projectiles generally move fast I figured that its trajectory wont feel too odd, however, depending on player feedback this might be changed. The only exception from this rule so far are heavy-laser weapons since their trajectory is quite obvious. Therefore the trajectory of heavy-laser firearms is set to center of the muzzle flash.

Server configuration

A synchronized config is created for each world:

<world>/serverconfig/recruitsscgunscompat-server.toml

Server owners can configure:

  • Heavy lasers beam width
  • Weapon acquisition range
  • Preferred firing range
  • Minimum accuracy
  • Maximum recruit-level range multiplier
  • Maximum recruit-level precision multiplier

The default maximum-level bonuses are:

Range: 1.25x
Precision: 1.10x

Either type of level growth can be disabled by setting its multiplier to 1.00.

Required versions

This release is designed specifically for:

  • Minecraft: 1.20.1
  • Forge: 47.4.0
  • Villager Recruits: 1.15.2
  • Scorched Guns 2: 0.5.5

The supported version ranges are intentionally narrow because the addon integrates directly with specific AI, weapon, and rendering systems from these releases.

Installation

Install the compatibility JAR together with the supported versions of Villager Recruits and Scorched Guns 2.

The same compatibility JAR should be installed on both the client and server.

Remove any older versions of this compatibility addon before installing the current release.

Beta status

Beta1.0 has completed its main gameplay, configuration, visual-alignment, and performance testing. The final test sessions showed no compatibility-related crashes, repeated logging spam, or sustained server lag.

The project remains marked as beta while it receives broader public testing with larger recruit battles, dedicated servers, additional weapons, and unusual model or resource-pack combinations.

This is an unofficial compatibility addon and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the developers of Villager Recruits or Scorched Guns 2.
