Description

SCP-689 - Jade Statue

Trailer out!

Video

A jade-green statue that does not appreciate being looked away from.

About

Based on the SCP universe, SCP-689 is a single anomalous statue. Exactly one exists in your world.

It does not move while being observed.

It does not need to.

Acquisition

SCP-689 is not crafted. It is not found in caves. It does not generate as a block in the world.

It will arrive on its own.

Somewhere between one and three in-game days after the anomaly takes notice of your world, it will choose a host. The host is selected silently — no announcement, no warning, no marker. There is no way to know whether you have been chosen.

The statue is delivered through ordinary means. A common container. A common interaction. Something you almost certainly do every day without thinking about it.

If the chosen host is unwilling, unavailable, or unobservant, the anomaly will quietly choose another.

You may receive it. You may not. Someone in your world will.

Behavior

Sight

SCP-689 reacts to being seen.

Looking at it is safe. Looking away from it is not.

The exact terms of this rule are best learned by accident. Survivors are urged to bring a friend.

Multiple Observers

When more than one entity has SCP-689 in view at once, the order in which they stop observing matters. The first to break attention is the first to be addressed.

Subsequent observers inherit the situation.

Villagers

Villagers do not enjoy the same grace period that players do.

Blindness

The anomaly cannot interact with what cannot perceive it.

The reverse is also true — though entities already acknowledged by SCP-689 are not so easily forgotten.

Containment

Certain materials, surfaces, and conditions appear to limit SCP-689's movement. Researchers have observed at least two reliable inhibitors:

  • A specific metal block, when placed underneath the statue, suppresses its tendency to wander.
  • A specific liquid, when arranged correctly around the statue, appears to halt its activity entirely.

Most building materials offer no protection. Walls do not work. Bedrock does not work. Obsidian does not work.

Determining what does work is left as an exercise for the player.

Mining

SCP-689 cannot be broken by hand or with the wrong tool. Insufficient equipment will register no progress at all.

Once successfully mined, the statue can be carried as an item. While in inventory, it is completely inert. The anomaly only resumes activity once placed back into the world.

Multiplayer

Fully multiplayer compatible.

Sight tracking, attention queues, and target priority are calculated independently per observer. Group expeditions are encouraged, both for tactical and witness purposes.

If no players are online when SCP-689 selects a host, it will simply wait for someone to join.

Survival Guide

There isn't one.

Experiment. Take notes. Bring a backup pickaxe.

The community will figure it out faster than any single document could.
