Smart leaf culling algorithm for Sodium on 1.21+
What does this do?
This Sodium addon optimizes the performance of leaves, which are typically more costly to render due to their transparency. Unlike other leaf culling performance mods, this mod injects directly into Sodium's chunk mesh render pipeline and provides a few new modes.
- The default is "Solid Aggressive," which will make the insides of large blocks of leaves run in solid non-transparent FAST mode, while maintaining the FANCY mode leaves on the outside. This can lead to a sizable performance boost when using shaders in a dense forest, without sacrificing visual quality.
- The only visual difference you will notice with the default mode is the tops of flat trees being solid and non-transparent. If this bothers you, you can use "Solid," which uses the same optimizations but will not aggressively merge leaf meshes.
- A more traditional "Hollow" culling mode is also available, which greedily culls vertices inside the tree. This option has more of a visual downside, but still looks great!
