About

Description

Physically-accurate black holes for Minecraft.

Souls Holes drops real general-relativity black holes into your world. No hand-wavy particle effects — actual Schwarzschild geometry, blackbody-radiating accretion disks, relativistic jets, and gravitational lensing of the world behind them.

Features

Real general relativity

  • Schwarzschild metric drives the event horizon, photon sphere (1.5 Rs), ISCO (6 Rs), and shadow at the critical impact parameter b_crit ≈ 2.598 Rs.

  • Gravitational pull uses the actual Newtonian limit of GR — falloff, escape velocity, and tidal spaghettification all scale correctly with the Schwarzschild radius.

  • Hawking radiation is computed but, like in reality, vanishingly slow.

    Shakura–Sunyaev accretion disk

  • Temperature profile T(r) ∝ r^(-3/4) integrated into a real Planck blackbody color at every radius.

  • Doppler beaming brightens the approaching limb and dims the receding one.

  • Gravitational redshift dims the inner disk near the ISCO.

  • Disk truncates at the ISCO and rotates with Keplerian orbital periods.

    Relativistic jets

  • Twin polar jets along the spin axis with realistic synchrotron coloring and length scaling.

    Gravitational lensing (GLSL post-process)

  • Full-screen shader that warps the world behind the black hole using the two-term Schwarzschild deflection (weak-field 2Rs/b plus the Darwin strong-field log divergence near the photon sphere).

  • Renders the photon ring at b_crit, secondary ring at higher orbit count, and tangential light wrap so jets visibly curve around the shadow.

  • Up to 8 black holes lensed simultaneously.

  • Minecraftify mode swaps the entire lensing field (shadow, photon ring, deflection) to Chebyshev geometry — every black hole becomes a perfect blocky cube of darkness.

    World content

  • Void Ore generates rarely in three bedrock layers (deepslate floor, world bottom, build-height ceiling). Drops Void Shards.

  • Bedrock shards drop occasionally when mining bedrock.

  • Black holes naturally seed one permanent Schwarzschild test BH per world in the Overworld and one in the End.

  • Void Ore generation is boosted within 100 blocks of any black hole.

    Items

  • Black Hole Spawner — Rs = 3 blocks. The standard test article.

  • Tiny Black Hole Spawner — Rs ≈ 0.5 blocks. For controlled experiments.

  • Quantum Grounder — late-game tool.

  • Unknown Beacon — late-game.

  • Void Shard — crafting reagent.

    Commands

  • /soulsholes spawn [radius] — spawn a black hole at the targeted location with a custom Schwarzschild radius.

    Configurable

Lensing strength, max lensed BHs, accretion disk toggle, Minecraftify mode, gravity multipliers, and more — all in soulsholes-common.toml.

    Warnings

  • The lensing shader requires OpenGL 3.2 (Minecraft's standard). Disable via config if your GPU melts.
