Steamon Origin is a NeoOrigins addon for Cobblemon servers: every player joins one of three permanent teams, picks a class inside it, and gets bonuses and a starter kit that fit that path. A custom selection screen replaces the default one. It was made for season 2 of the Steamon SMP.

You need NeoOrigins, Cobblemon, Create, Cobblemon: Mega Showdown and Sophisticated Backpacks, on the client and on the server.

Beta: this is the first version of the mod. Report anything odd you meet.

What it does

  • Three teams. Spark (builders and inventors), Relic (explorers and finders) and Might (fighters and keepers). The team is permanent.
  • Nine classes. The class is chosen right after the team, and each class has its own bonuses and its own kit.
  • Permanent bonuses. Per team and per class: reach, speed, mining, farming, luck, health and more.
  • Cobblemon bonuses. Battle experience, friendship gain, catch rate, and shiny or alpha odds near the player, depending on the class.
  • A starter kit, given once per team and once per class.
  • Team colours in chat, in the tab list and on name tags.
  • A story page shown before the choice, which you can open again from the picker.
  • FTB Quests ready. Choosing a team or a class grants an advancement you can use as a quest condition.

The three teams

Show

  • Team Spark (leader: Simon Park). Machines, farms and research. +2 blocks of build and interaction reach, +25% block breaking speed. Classes: Engineer, Agronomist, Researcher.
  • Team Relic (leader: Mike Koch). Ruins, fossils and treasure. +2 Luck, +5% movement speed. Classes: Explorer, Relic Hunter, Paleontologist.
  • Team Might (leader: Rebeca Alves). Duels, bonds and the hunt. +2 attack damage, +15% battle experience for your Pokemon. Classes: Duelist, Warden, Tracker.

Every player also gets, once, 32 Potato Mochi, 16 torches and 16 Poke Balls, plus a team item: Create goggles for Spark, a brush for Relic, an Exp. Share for Might.

The nine classes

Show

  • Engineer (Spark): +10% break speed, +1 Luck. Kit: Create wrench, andesite alloy.
  • Agronomist (Spark): nearby crops grow about 10% faster, hunger drains 15% slower. Kit: apricorn seeds, bone meal, Max Potions, a Sitrus Berry.
  • Researcher (Spark): +25% vanilla XP, a little more shiny luck near you. Kit: healing items and Heal Balls.
  • Explorer (Relic): +5% speed, +3 safe fall height. Kit: Quick Balls, a stone pickaxe, a Sophisticated Backpack.
  • Relic Hunter (Relic): +1 extra Luck, a little more shiny luck near you. Kit: a Potion of Luck, Ancient Ultra Balls, a Tera Pouch.
  • Paleontologist (Relic): +2 mining efficiency, +10% break speed, permanent night vision. Kit: an enchanted brush, a Restoration Tank, a Fossil Analyzer, a Data Monitor, a Helix Fossil.
  • Duelist (Might): +10% vanilla XP, +5% speed. Kit: Great Balls, Rare Candies, a Mega Bracelet.
  • Warden (Might): +25% friendship gained, +10 hearts, +1 block and entity reach. Kit: Leftovers, Oran Berries, a shield.
  • Tracker (Might): +10% catch rate, more shiny and alpha luck near you. Kit: a Red Pokedex, Safari Balls, a Poke Rod, a boat.

The selection screen

Show

Your own skin is shown on stage, animated for the team and the class, with the team's Pokemon on a pedestal, the list of bonuses and the cards. It is drawn entirely by code and fits small windows.

  • Mouse: hover a card to preview it, click to select it, double click to choose it, drag to turn your character, scroll the lists.
  • Keyboard: Tab and the arrow keys move, Enter or Space activates, Escape goes back or asks if you want to leave the game.
  • Final choice: the class step asks you to confirm, because it cannot be changed afterwards, unless you win an event that lets you switch.

Shiny and alpha odds

Cobblemon has no per-player shiny rate, so the bonus is an extra chance, rolled once for each Pokemon that spawns within 48 blocks of a Relic Hunter, a Researcher or a Tracker. It is relative to the real Cobblemon rates (shiny 1 in 8192), so it stays small. Trackers also get a small relative chance of an alpha.

Quests

Show

Choosing a team or a class grants an advancement. With FTB Quests, use them as quest conditions, for example to give a different questline to each team. Sample chapters are in the repository.

Compatibility

Required: NeoOrigins, Cobblemon, Create, Cobblemon: Mega Showdown and Sophisticated Backpacks, because some kits and class icons use their items.

Optional: FTB Quests, for the bridge advancements.

Install the mod on the client and on the server. Changing the teams or the classes is done in the datapack inside the jar.

Origin of the idea

Season 2 of the Steamon SMP needed a way to give every player a place in the world from the first minute. Three teams, each with its own leader and its own story, and a class to make that place personal.

Built on NeoOrigins by CyberDay1. The look follows the world of Pokemon, a game by Game Freak and The Pokemon Company. This mod is a fan work, not affiliated with them, with Nintendo, with Mojang or with Cobblemon. The license is All Rights Reserved: you may use the unmodified jar in modpacks, servers and videos.
