Description
[SBW] Superb Horizons
Renders Superb Warfare vehicles as ghost models beyond your render distance — so you always know where they are.

⚠️ Beta Notice
This mod is currently in beta and may not function correctly in all situations. Rendering glitches, synchronization issues, or unexpected crashes may occur. Please report any bugs you encounter. Use at your own risk.
In the current version, ghost models place about half the load on the system as regular entities. As long as a ghost model is rendered in the world, it will continue to place about half the load on the system, regardless of how far away it is from the entity. While this mod works fine when there are only a few vehicles, please note that it is not currently suitable for battles involving large numbers of vehicles.
Please report any issues encountered with this add-on in the comments section of this mod or on Vell's Mods Info Server.
Overview
Superb Horizons is a client-side companion mod for Superb Warfare that solves one of the most frustrating problems in large-scale multiplayer battles: vehicles disappearing the moment they leave your render distance.
With this mod installed, all Superb Warfare vehicles — tanks, helicopters, aircraft, and more — continue to be rendered as ghost models even when they are far outside your normal chunk loading range. This means you can track enemy (or friendly) vehicles across the battlefield without needing an unrealistically large render distance.
Superb Horizons works with all vehicles from Superb Warfare and any Superb Warfare add-on mod. As long as the vehicle is based on Superb Warfare's vehicle system, it will be automatically tracked and displayed as a ghost model — no extra configuration needed.
This mod is also designed to be used alongside Distant Horizons, the Level-of-Detail (LOD) terrain mod. Together, they let you see both the world terrain and the vehicles within it at extreme distances, making large-scale battles far more immersive and tactically readable.(This mod will work even without Distant Horizons, but it may feel a bit off.)
Requirements
- Minecraft: 1.20.1 (Forge)
- Required Mod: Superb Warfare
- Compatible with: All Superb Warfare add-on mods
- Recommended alongside: Distant Horizons (optional but intended)
Distant Horizons Compatibility
Superb Horizons is designed to be used together with Distant Horizons, which extends terrain rendering to extreme distances using LOD chunks. When used in combination, you can see both the landscape and vehicles across the full battlefield.
⚠️ If ghost models stop appearing when using Distant Horizons
Distant Horizons includes its own rendering pipeline that can interfere with how ghost models are drawn. If you find that ghost vehicles are no longer visible after installing Distant Horizons, try the following:
- Open the Distant Horizons settings menu (accessible from the in-game video settings or its dedicated keybind).
- Navigate to the Rendering section.
- Disable the rendering option that is causing the conflict (e.g., rendering overrides or custom depth buffer settings).
- Restart your world or relog for the changes to take effect.
The exact setting may vary depending on your version of Distant Horizons. If you are unsure which option to disable, try turning off advanced rendering features one at a time until ghost models reappear.
Known Limitations (Beta)
- Ghost rendering relies on reflection to access Superb Warfare internals. If the reflection initialization fails, ghost models will fall back to a simpler display mode or may not render at all.
- PolyMesh rendering is experimental. Vehicles without compatible PolyMesh data will use the animated entity fallback or a basic renderer.
- Very large numbers of vehicles synced simultaneously may cause network or performance issues.
- This mod has not been tested against all Superb Warfare vehicle types. Some vehicles may display incorrectly or not at all.
Superb Horizons is an unofficial companion mod and is not affiliated with the Superb Warfare development team.
