Description
Survival Instinct / Apocalypse Now | Compatibility Layer
is a standalone Forge 1.20.1 addon that connects the progression, crafting, loot, and survival systems of Survival Instinct and Apocalypse Now.
Both mods add excellent post-apocalyptic equipment, weapons, armor, medical supplies, traps, tools, scrap materials, and structures. However, they normally operate as two separate systems. Their items rarely appear in each other’s loot tables, their materials do not work together in crafting, and several similar items compete for the same role.
This compatibility addon bridges those systems while leaving both original mods unchanged.
Features
Shared crafting progression
The addon introduces cross-mod recipes that allow materials from both mods to work together.
Examples include:
- Apocalypse Now scrap metal combined with Survival Instinct aluminium to create steellium.
- Apocalypse Now plastic and Survival Instinct polyethylene used to create plastic plates.
- Apocalypse Now plastic plates and scrap metal used for Survival Instinct body armor plates.
- Apocalypse Now barbed wire and Survival Instinct rope used to create wire traps.
- Apocalypse Now medical kits combined with Survival Instinct bandages, alcohol wipes, morphine, and iron to create Survival Instinct medkits.
This creates a more connected progression path instead of forcing players to treat each mod as a completely separate item set.
Structure-based loot
Loot is adjusted according to the type of structure or chest being searched.
Military and police locations may contain:
- Armor materials
- Body armor plates
- Exo components
- Scrap metal
- Aluminium
- Other high-value survival materials
Medical locations such as clinics, pharmacies, hospitals, and medic chests may contain:
- Survival Instinct medkits
- Apocalypse Now medical kits
- Bandages
- Medical crafting materials
Industrial locations such as garages, storage buildings, hardware areas, and firefighter structures may contain:
- Electronic scrap
- Electrical scrap
- Cash registers
- Polyethylene sheets
- Plastic
- Exo components
- Scrap metal and other recyclable materials
Markets, farms, kitchens, and food-related locations may contain:
- Survival supplies
- Water
- Canned food
- Cash registers
- Additional recyclable salvage
The goal is to make exploration feel more logical: medical buildings provide medical resources, military buildings provide armor materials, and industrial areas provide the components needed for advanced equipment.
Exo armor preparation
Recyclable materials are intentionally distributed through appropriate loot tables so players can gradually collect resources for future exo armor crafting.
These materials include:
- Exo components
- Electronic scrap
- Electrical scrap
- Aluminium
- Polyethylene sheets
- Plastic
- Plastic plates
- Scrap metal
- Cash registers and other industrial salvage
Rare materials are concentrated in military and industrial locations rather than being added equally to every chest.
Duplicate loot handling
The two mods contain several items with similar purposes, including:
- Bear traps
- Explosive barrels
- Bandages
- Rope
The addon can deduplicate these shared loot roles and prefer the Apocalypse Now versions when both versions would appear in the same chest.
The original items remain registered and craftable, so existing worlds and player inventories are not invalidated.
Shared mining and tool tags
The addon reinforces the shared axe, pickaxe, and stone-tool tags for blocks from both mods.
This helps ensure that Survival Instinct and Apocalypse Now structures behave consistently when mined, especially for:
- Barricades
- Crates
- Traps
- Barrels
- Scrap blocks
- Storage blocks
- Industrial blocks
- Metal structures
