About
Description
Swirling Smoke
Watch smoke reveal the wind around it. Swirling Smoke makes campfire and other smoke particles rise near their source, then gradually drift as they climb. Walls, trees, terrain, and caves change how much wind reaches them, while small variations keep the movement from looking uniform.
The wind changes over time, from still air and gentle breezes to strong winds and gusts. Rain and thunderstorms influence its behavior. You can adjust the wind and smoke response in the config, or use client-side commands to set a specific wind for testing.
Features
- Smoke that rises first and bends more as it gains height
- Changing wind direction and strength, influenced by the weather
- Airflow affected by terrain, obstacles, and underground spaces
- Subtle sway and turbulence
- Configurable wind and smoke behavior
Optional mod compatibility
Compatibility depends on the Minecraft version and mod loader:
| Version | Integrations |
|---|---|
| NeoForge 1.21.1 | Create Mechanical Fans, Create: Aeronautics propellers, Steam 'n' Rails smoke and steam, Particle Rain, and AeroWeather |
| Fabric 26.3 | Particle Rain |
| NeoForge 26.3 | Core smoke and wind features |
With Particle Rain, smoke can use its wind direction during rain. With AeroWeather, Swirling Smoke uses AeroWeather's wind while handling the smoke's movement itself. These mods are optional.
Wind commands
These are client-side commands for inspecting and testing the wind:
/swirlingsmoke wind get— Show the current wind state, direction, strength, mode, and remaining duration./swirlingsmoke wind set <type> [direction]— Forcenone, calm, normal, strong, orgust. The optional direction is an angle from 0 to 359 degrees: 0 east, 90 south, 180 west, and 270 north./swirlingsmoke wind auto— Return to automatic wind behavior.
Swirling Smoke
Swirling Smoke makes smoke particles react naturally to dynamic wind, weather, surrounding terrain, and local airflow. Smoke rises vertically near its source before gradually drifting with the wind, while caves, trees, walls, and other obstacles reduce or block outdoor airflow.
The mod includes multiple wind conditions, ranging from calm air and gentle breezes to strong winds and sudden gusts. Rain and thunderstorms also affect wind behavior, while caves remain mostly still with occasional subtle underground drafts.
Features
- Dynamic wind direction and strength
- Calm, normal, strong, and gusting wind conditions
- Weather-based wind changes
- Terrain and obstacle-aware airflow
- Height-based smoke movement
- Occasional cave drafts
- Configurable wind behavior and compatibility options
