Features

  • Audio-reactive particles and geometry visualizers
  • HUD media player with cover art, playback controls, progress, volume, and visualizer styles
  • Multiple visualizer types, including bars, waveform, oscilloscope, dot sphere, network, rain, float, emerge, fly, cloud, cube, pyramid, sphere, and true sphere
  • Custom themes with color presets, color picker, RGB/hex input, opacity controls, and particle color slots
  • Lyrics HUD with scrolling lyric display
  • Song queue support with automatic preparation for upcoming tracks
  • Listening party system with party codes, party permissions, member controls, and shared queues
  • Player music controls for muting or lowering other players
  • Configurable HUD scale, UI scale, blur, animations, fonts, and layout options
  • Designed for compatibility with Fabric, NeoForge, Sodium, Iris, and dynamic lighting setups
  • Optional cross-server visualizer and listening-party synchronization through the THC relay. This feature is disabled by default and may transmit account, multiplayer, party, track, and visualizer information when enabled. See the Data Collection and External Services disclosure for complete details.

Music Support

THC is designed to support music from common sources such as:

  • YouTube links and searches
  • SoundCloud links
  • Spotify metadata and fallback lookup
  • Local or system output capture where supported

The mod can display track information, artist names, cover art, progress, queue state, and lyrics when available.

Customization

THC is built around personalization. Players can adjust:

  • Particle count, size, distance, height, speed, bass reaction, BPM reaction, drift, gravity, and glow
  • Visualizer style, animation type, world shape, and optional second visualizer
  • HUD layout, media player layout, lyrics HUD, visualizer HUD, opacity, and positioning
  • Theme colors, glow colors, panel colors, particle colors, and custom hex/RGB values
  • Fonts, UI scale, HUD scale, background blur, and animations

Multiplayer

THC includes multiplayer-focused controls so players can manage how they experience other people’s music and visuals.

  • Mute or lower other players’ music
  • Disable other players’ particles or HUD song display locally
  • Join listening parties with shared queues
  • Use party leader controls for skipping, locking, muting, kicking, banning, or limiting member actions

Compatibility

  • Minecraft 1.21.1 (Official - 1.21.1, 1.21.11, 26.1.1, 26.1.2, 26.2)
  • Fabric 1.21.1
  • NeoForge 1.21.1 (21.1.233)
  • Sodium compatible
  • Iris shader compatible
  • Designed with dynamic lights support in mind

Notes

  • THC is actively being developed. Some provider features, synced lyrics, cover art, party features, dynamic lighting, and audio capture behavior may vary depending on platform, installed dependencies (yt-dlp & ffmpeg), and server configuration.
  • Server owners can configure restrictions for music playback, particles, HUD visibility, listening parties, and player permissions.
  • Plugin version will be developed later on so servers can use plugins if they'd like servers to use this.
  • To comply with the Terms of Service of most online platforms, the server or relay does not stream audio. Instead, it synchronizes playback between clients, making the mod both multiplayer-friendly and compliant with platform policies

Common Questions

  • Will this be open source?
    • Most likely, yes. Once THC reaches a point where player-made visualizers can sync between clients without requiring the server to have the mod installed, I believe it would make more sense to open source it or atleast make a public api for it.
  • Will this be uploaded to Modrinth?
    • Most likely not. Their moderation is good, but it takes too long for the amount of bug fixes and updates I am currently making.
  • Can I help or be part of the project?
    • Coding-wise, no. However, you can still help by submitting issues, bug reports, and feedback.
  • Will there be any supporter features?
    • I personally do not want to do that, but maybe. If it ever happens, it would most likely be extra visualizers that I make which are not part of the normal presets. There is also a possibility that players could share or sell their own visualizers in some way.
  • Is there a Discord server?
    • No. I personally do not like owning servers because they can cause drama, need constant moderation, and become problematic to manage. In general, I also do not really enjoy having to constantly converse with others in that kind of setting.
  • Will there be a Forge port or backport?
    • The furthest back I would most likely support is Minecraft 1.20.1, and that may be the only Forge port. There is a chance I may support newer Forge versions in the future, but the main issue is making sure the mod stays optimized and stable across different loaders and versions.
  • I have a suggestion. Where should I suggest it?
    • Please suggest it on the THC-Issues GitHub page and label it properly. You can also leave suggestions in the CurseForge comments, but they are less likely to be seen.
  • Why is the curseforge/modrinth version out-dated or not updated?
    • Currently, I am dealing with curseforge false flagging my mods on submitting, while many mods will download external programs on control of the player wishes, I am being flagged for it with no response from support, even with the curseforge version removing the download. I am currently at a state where the curseforge version cannot be updated because of curseforge's slow moderation.
    • Modrinth moderation is very strict so it takes time for it to be accepted.

Planned Features

  • More media player HUD layouts
  • More visualizer styles and geometry modes
  • Expanded server-side controls
  • Better cover art and metadata fetching
  • More particle presets inspired by advanced visual clients
  • Improved dynamic lighting and shader glow integration
  • Player made audio visualizers
  • Plugin Version
  • Compatibility/Integration with Voice Chat Mod & EmoteCraft
  • Icons instead of just text symbols/words
