Description

The Hush banner

"Day 35. It goes for the light. I watched a torch vanish from my wall. There was no sound, no fire, just… sudden, suffocating darkness. All I can sense now are the footsteps."

Minecraft's darkness has always been relatively safe. You place a line of torches down a tunnel, retreat behind a wooden door, and feel secure.

The Hush changes that.

Designed as a psychological horror experience, The Hush replaces predictable jumpscares with a silent, patient presence. Something in the deep places watches you, learns your habits, and slowly turns your familiar routines against you.

What Waits in the Dark

  • An Intelligent Shadow: It does not simply sprint at you on sight. It observes from the edges of your vision, retreats into pitch darkness when noticed, and strikes when your guard is lowered.
  • Sanity & Mental Strain: Prolonged exposure to total darkness and isolation gradually wears down your mind. Resting near lit campfires or tamed pets offers brief comfort to restore your composure, but remaining in the dark too long will cause your perception of reality to break down.
  • Base & Shelter Manipulation: The paths and shelters you visit most often become targets. While you are away, you may return to find torches extinguished, doors opened, levers flipped, or subtle signs left behind in the places you thought were secure.
  • Paranoia & Illusions: As your sanity wanes, your eyes and ears play tricks on you. Distant shadowy figures peeking around dark corners, phantom ore veins that turn to dust when mined, and mimic shapes will leave you questioning what is real.
  • Acoustic Echoes: Deep underground, your own actions may echo back to you. The sound of stone breaking or footsteps running down a dark shaft might not be yours alone.
  • Proximity Voice Chat: Fully compatible with Simple Voice Chat. Whispering or speaking over your microphone in dark caves can draw unwanted attention to your position.
  • Abduction & Escape: Defeat does not always mean immediate death. In severe encounters, you can be dragged deep into subterranean obsidian rooms, forcing you to solve light puzzles under pressure to escape.
  • Forgotten Secrets: Procedurally generated crypts and outposts lie hidden in the deepslate layers, holding lost audio cassette recordings and ancient relics. But take care before looting—make sure you are actually alone.
  • Sanctuary: Craft specialized Ward Candles to protect your home and establish a warded area that keeps the darkness at bay.

Survival Guidance

  • Protect your mind — Stay near light sources, campfires, or loyal companions when paranoia sets in.
  • Listen carefully — Silence is rarely empty down here.
  • Vary your routines — Walking the exact same path every trip makes you predictable.
  • Keep light close — But remember that light draws eyes.

Technical Information

  • Minecraft Version: 1.20.1 (Forge)
  • Required Dependency: GeckoLib 4
  • Optional Integration: Simple Voice Chat
  • Multiplayer: Per-player event routing ensures auditory and visual scares stay personal to each player.
  • Claim Protection: Compatible with popular land claim mods (FTB Chunks, WorldGuard, Minecolonies) to prevent base manipulation inside protected areas.
  • Customization: Server and client configuration options are available to tune difficulty, occurrence rates, and visual intensity.
