Description

The Miners Dreams

Right-click. Boom. A whole mine. The Miners Dream blasts a huge tunnel through the rock in front of you and leaves every ore behind in the walls, floor and ceiling, ready to pick. Inspired by the OreSpawn Miners Dream, rebuilt for Forge 1.20.1 with five tiers to work your way up.

The Netherite Miners Dream blasting a 200-block tunnel

How it works

  • Right-click any block with a Miners Dream and it blasts a tunnel the way you're looking. The blast rolls forward a few blocks at a time, so even the biggest tunnels don't freeze your game or server.
  • Every ore stays. Ores are never blasted, including modded ones (anything in the forge:ores tag). Chests, spawners and machines are never blasted either.
  • It clears the rock: stone, deepslate, tuff, dirt, gravel, sand, clay, andesite, diorite, granite, cobblestone, terracotta, and modded stone that uses the standard tags. It also clears cobwebs, mineshaft planks, fences and rails, and sculk, including sensors, shriekers and catalysts.
  • No floods. Water, lava and modded fluids next to the tunnel are sealed off with stone, waterlogged blocks are drained, and fluids ahead of the blast are dammed before it reaches them.
  • A floor you can walk on. Gaps, chasms and lava lakes under the tunnel get a solid floor, so you can walk straight across. Sand and gravel above the ceiling are sealed so they can't fall on you.
  • Lit for you. Overworld and End tunnels get a torch every 6 blocks.
  • Look up or down to dig a shaft. Look down and you get a shaft straight down, with a water pool at the bottom to land in. Look up and you get a shaft straight up. Both come with a ladder up the wall so you can climb out.
  • Plays nicely with servers. It respects spawn protection and the world border, and claim mods can stop it, because every blasted block counts as broken by you.

The tiers

Craft the base Miners Dream, then upgrade it at a smithing table. Each tier blasts a bigger tunnel, lasts longer and works in more dimensions. Upgrades keep their wear, just like netherite tools.

Tier Uses Tunnel (long × wide × tall) Works in
Miners Dream 4 51 × 11 × 7 Overworld
Iron Miners Dream 16 75 × 11 × 7 Overworld
Gold Miners Dream 32 100 × 13 × 7 Overworld, Nether
Diamond Miners Dream 64 150 × 13 × 9 Overworld, Nether, End
Netherite Miners Dream Infinite 200 × 15 × 9 Overworld, Nether, End

The Netherite Miners Dream never runs out and survives lava, like other netherite items. All of them have a 1-second cooldown.

Enchantments

Miners Dreams can be enchanted at an enchanting table or with books on an anvil.

  • Reach (I–III): tunnels reach 25% further per level. A Netherite Miners Dream with Reach III blasts 350 blocks.
  • Blast Radius (I–II): tunnels are 2 blocks wider and 2 blocks taller per level.
  • Unbreaking and Mending work on every tier that wears out.

The tooltip always shows the tunnel size, including enchantments.

Dispensers

Put a Miners Dream in a dispenser and power it: it blasts the way the dispenser faces, up and down included. Great for redstone tunnel-boring machines.

Advancements

A Miners Dream tab with five advancements: Miners Dream, Fire in the Hole, Ironclad Dream, Dreaming Big and the Infinite Dream challenge.

Config

config/minersdream-common.toml:

  • lengthPerTick (default 4): how many blocks of tunnel a blast carves each tick. Higher is faster, lower is gentler on big servers.
  • torches (default true): light Overworld and End tunnels.
  • rails (default false): lay a rail down the middle of every tunnel.

Modpack makers can change what gets blasted with the block tags minersdream:overworld_tunnel, minersdream:nether_tunnel and minersdream:end_tunnel.

Compatibility

  • Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47.1.0 or newer.
  • Needed on both the client and the server.
  • Tested in a 450-mod pack: modded ores stay, modded stone gets cleared.
