Description

Tidings

Get a notification on your phone when your friends join your Minecraft server!

Tidings is a server-side Forge mod that comes with a free web app for your phone. No need to open the game to know when your friends are playing.

Features

Pair your phone once by running /tidings pair in game and scanning the QR code. From then on, you get a notification when someone joins and you can check who's online at any time. One app works for all the servers you play on.

Players who'd rather stay private can run /tidings hide so phones aren't told when they come and go.

The app lives at https://tidingsmc.github.io/tidingsmc/. Add it to your home screen so it works like a regular app:

  • iPhone: open it in Safari, tap Share, then “Add to Home Screen”. This step is required on iPhone to receive notifications.
  • Android: open it in Chrome, tap the ⋮ menu, then “Install app”.

Add-ons

Tidings was built to be extended: add-ons can add their own tabs and notifications to the app. Two are available to start with:

  • Tidings Vanilla Chat: chat with the server from your phone and get notified when someone mentions you.
  • Tidings Vanilla Stats: see stats, leaderboards and advancements, and get notified about deaths and challenges.

Mod authors can make their own using the add-on guide (https://github.com/tidingsmc/tidingsmc/blob/main/docs/addons.md) on GitHub.

Requirements

/!\ The server needs to be reachable over HTTPS! The easiest way is a free Cloudflare relay, see the installation guide (https://github.com/tidingsmc/tidingsmc#installation) on GitHub.

If you’d rather expose the server yourself (Cloudflare Tunnel, Tailscale Funnel, a reverse proxy…), that works too.

Setup and documentation

The setup guide, commands and add-on guide are on GitHub: https://github.com/tidingsmc/tidingsmc

There's no central Tidings service, no account and no tracking: each server sends its own encrypted notifications.
