Forge • NeoForge • Fabric • Quilt | 1.12.2 → 26.3
Bigger storage that you can pick up, and a place for the junk. Trash & Crates OG adds wooden crates with more room than a chest that keep everything inside when you break them, like shulker boxes you can craft on day one, and a trash can that destroys whatever you put, throw or pipe into it. Pack up your base and move it in a few trips, and stop filling chests with rotten flesh.

A full crate broken with an axe drops as one item. Put it back down and everything is still inside.

| Block | Slots | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Crate | 36 (4 rows) | Storage that drops with its contents when broken. Mined faster with an axe. |
| Reinforced Crate | 54 (6 rows, a double chest) | The same, iron-banded and a little tougher. |
| Trash Can | 27 (3 rows) | Destroys what's left in it when you close it, what you throw in, and what hoppers push in. |

Crate: four logs at the corners, four planks between, the middle empty. Any wood works.

Reinforced Crate: four iron ingots at the corners, four planks between.

Trash Can: seven iron ingots round a cactus (the one block that already eats your items).

You'll find all three in the Functional Blocks tab in creative.

Crates
- 📦 More room than a chest: 36 slots in a crate, 54 in a reinforced crate, in a single block.
- 🪓 Break it, keep it: a broken crate drops as one item with everything inside, and placing it puts it all back. It works with any way of breaking it: by hand, explosions, other mods' machines. In creative a full crate still drops itself, like a shulker box.
- 🔍 See what's inside: a crate's tooltip lists what it holds.
- 🏷️ Renamed crates keep their name, placed or broken, and show it on the screen.
- ⚙️ Hoppers and comparators work, and other mods' pipes too (item handler on NeoForge and Forge, transfer API on Fabric).
- 🚫 No storage in storage: like shulker boxes, crates turn away other crates and shulker boxes, and a crate doesn't fit in a shulker box or a bundle. Storage nested in storage makes items big enough to overload saves and servers.
Trash Can
- 🗑️ A screen that deletes on close: put anything in, change your mind and take it back, close the screen and it's gone.
- 🔥 Throw it in: items dropped, thrown or washed into the bin burn up with a hiss and a puff of smoke. Point a mob farm's water stream at it.
- ⬇️ Hoppers and droppers can empty into it: sort the keepers into crates and send the rest to the bin. Nothing ever comes back out.

Thrown in, burnt up.

Shift-click the junk in, close the screen: gone.

Everything can be changed in config/trashcratesog.properties (created on the first start, with a comment on each line):

- Install it on the client and the server: it adds blocks, so both sides need it. In single player just add it to your mods.
- The screens are the game's own chest screens, so inventory sorting and tweaking mods work in them.
- On 1.12.2 and 1.16.5 a crate can still be put into a shulker box (those versions give mods no say in it); crates themselves turn shulker boxes away everywhere.
- Works with Sodium, Iris and shader packs (the screenshots below use Complementary Reimagined).
- Every version is tested in-game before release (crates broken by a player, in creative and by a non-player break, placed back with all their contents, renamed, fed by a hopper, offered crates and shulker boxes; items thrown into the trash can, a hopper emptying into it, its screen used and closed), with the results checked on the server, and boots on a dedicated server.
- MIT License: use it in any modpack.
