About

Description

Beta. Anti-cheat and moderation toolkit for Forge 1.20.1 servers, built for heavily modded packs. Install it on the server and on every player's client (a player without it cannot join).

Trident AC is a tool for staff: it records and shows you what players run and flags suspicious behaviour. It does not punish anyone automatically unless an admin switches that on.

What it does

Client mod inventory

  • Every mod each player runs, with version and whether the file matches an unmodified Modrinth upload.
  • Unknown mods are only listed. Nothing happens to the player. Staff press Approve (never flagged again, across updates) or Block.
  • For a blocked mod you choose what happens on join: flag only, kick with your own message, or ban.
  • Keybind, resource-pack, brightness (fullbright) and class checks, re-run every 15-30 minutes while a player is online. Staff can also see each player's resource packs, with suspicious ones marked.

Server-side checks

  • On by default: fly, ground spoof, speed, reach, auto-click, no-fall, nuker, walking on water, step, fast ladder, block reach, x-ray ore ratio, chat spam and repeated vehicle kills.
  • Experimental and off by default: fast break, scaffold, killaura, aimbot, no-slow, high jump, phase, walking in a container and illegal items (which also looks inside shulker boxes, bundles and backpacks).
  • Every check has its own switch. In DevTools -> DETECTION CHECKS (or /trident checks) admins turn each one on or off and choose what it does: log only, flag, kick or ban. By default they only flag.
  • Vehicle kill loot duplication fix. Some vehicle mods (Superb Warfare, for one) put a victim's drops into the vehicle that ran them over, and when a corpse mod (such as Corpse) also keeps those items, the loot is duplicated. Trident spots the same loot in both places and removes the copy, without needing either mod. You choose which copy stays (detection.lootDupeKeep), the driver gets a flag, and an admin can switch it off.
  • Built to stay quiet around other mods without knowing them by name: explosions, mines and traps, launch pads, knockback, vehicles of any mod (including standing on a parked vehicle), attacks a mod makes for the player (such as drone strikes), speed and jump blocks, and mod-cancelled falls are all handled. Other mods can also request an exemption through a small API.

Staff ranks

  • Helper, Moderator and Admin, with permissions you can edit per rank and per player (DevTools -> STAFF & RANKS, or /trident staff). Server operators always have full access.
  • A menu that only shows what you may use. Anything a person cannot use is not shown at all, so nobody sees what the anti-cheat has beyond their own tools. The server-wide tools in DevTools (logs, mod lists, staff & ranks, detection checks, diagnostics, reload) are for server operators by default, and an admin can give any of them to a whole rank or a single person.
  • Helpers can escalate a report to a moderator.

Reports and staff tools

  • One anti-cheat report per player, listing every check that fired plus the context (held item, ping, location).
  • Reports also save what was inside shulker boxes, bundles and backpacks (Sophisticated Storage included), and staff see the full contents when they hover the item.
  • Players can file reports with /report, see their status with /myreports, and edit them while still open. They are told once when their report has been handled, right away or at their next login.
  • Claim / uphold / dismiss workflow, kick / ban / mute and an optional Discord webhook.
  • Inventory viewer for online and offline players. Offline players are listed under OFFLINE, and staff who may modify inventories can take items out of (or put items into) their inventory, armor, off hand and ender chest. Every change is saved at once, the old save file is kept as a backup, nothing is written if the player comes online or the file changes, and the window closes itself when they log in.
  • Spectate a player without them noticing: smooth camera, nearest chunks first, entities, vehicles, poses, held items, block changes and projectiles, and (with Simple Voice Chat) you hear what the target hears. It copes with the target leaving, dying, teleporting or changing dimension.
  • Vanish (/trident vanish): moderators and admins become invisible to players who are not staff. No body, no player list entry, no join / leave / death messages.
  • Reload without a restart: /trident reload re-reads the config, staff, mod lists and check switches and restarts the checks while the server keeps running.

Consent-based screenshots

  • Staff can request a screenshot of a player's Minecraft window only (never the desktop or other programs).
  • Each player is asked once per server in chat (Accept / Decline), and a notification is shown every time one is taken.
  • A screenshot can start a report and be attached as ban proof.
  • Server owners choose whether declining is allowed (requireConsent).

Setup (about 10 minutes)

  1. Put the jar in mods on the server and on every client.
  2. Start once, then op yourself (or add your name to config/tridentac/whitelist.json).
  3. Join and use /admin. Open DEVTOOLS -> MODS to review what players run.
  4. Want zero risk first? Set general.learnMode = true in config/tridentac-common.toml.

Commands: /admin, /trident status, /trident mods, /trident screenshot <player>, /trident staff, /trident checks, /trident vanish, /trident reload, /trident diag (operators), /myreports, /report.

Compatibility

Works on a plain Forge server. Optional integrations load only if present: TACZ (gun hit evidence, aim analysis), Curios, Simple Voice Chat (hear the target while spectating) and Sophisticated Storage (contents in reports; Sophisticated Backpacks is supported the same way but untested).

Tested on a real server and game client together with Immersive Vehicles, Superb Warfare, TACZ, Vic's Point Blank, MineTraps and the FCP vehicle pack: traps, ghost and troll blocks, mines, jump pads, vehicles, gun fire and mod-made attacks did not cause flags. The loot duplication fix was tested against the real Superb Warfare and Corpse. If a vehicle mod's riders ever get flagged, add the mod to carrierEntities in the config.

Performance

  • Nothing is written to disk during a server tick, and the checks cost a few thousandths of a tick per player. The one exception is a staff member editing an offline player's inventory, which saves that single player file at once.
  • On a player's own game nothing runs per frame unless that player is being spectated.
  • An optional diagnostics log (/trident diag on, off by default, operators only) records what the checks saw, so a bug report can include it.

Privacy

  • Mod file hashes are sent to Modrinth only to find a matching upload (can be turned off with integrity.lookupModrinth = false).
  • Screenshots need the player's consent and only ever capture the game window.
  • A Discord webhook is optional and off until you set it.
  • Changes to an offline player's inventory are written to that player's own save file and noted in the server log with the staff member's name.

Honest limits

  • Anything a client reports (mod list, keybinds, brightness) can be faked by a modified client. Treat it as a signal for staff, not proof.
  • It cannot detect cheats that only change what the client displays (freecam, ESP, wallhack).
  • Vanish hides you from other players, but not from /list or the player count in the server list.
  • Not yet tested in a real game: driving Immersive Vehicles, firing Superb Warfare guns and Sophisticated Backpacks.
  • This is a beta: the behaviour checks were tested with scripted cheat clients and several large mods, but have not been tuned on many servers yet, which is why they only flag by default. Please report false flags with the check name and what the player was doing.
