Description

starfall-banner.png

Shooting stars on clear nights. Most are quick and faint, some nights turn into a proper meteor shower, and once in a while you get a bolide - a slow, very bright fireball that breaks up and leaves a glow hanging behind it.

What you'll see

  • Shooting stars - each one drags a glowing trail that lingers for a moment and shrinks away behind it. Most burn white-blue; gold, teal, violet, emerald and rose turn up as well, and the brighter ones throw off sparkles.
  • Meteor showers - on some nights the stars all radiate from one point in the sky, up to several a minute at the peak, and the whole shower shares a colour.
  • Bolides - rare and slow, sometimes green like the real ones. It breaks into glowing fragments and the afterglow sits there for a few seconds.

How it behaves

  • Clear nights only. Everything fades in with the stars and back out at dawn or under rain and storm cover.
  • Terrain occludes the sky normally, so a mountain hides whatever is behind it.
  • Frequency runs from Rare to Busy, and showers and bolides each have their own toggle.

Compatibility

Client-side, no mixins and no GLSL. The streaks draw through a vanilla additive render type on the composited frame, so they show up under Sodium and Iris shaderpacks.

Configuration

Sodium's video settings has a Starfall page - frequency, brightness, showers and bolides. It's all in config/starfall.json too.
