Description

The Twilight Forest:Re26

Unofficial port of The Twilight Forest from Minecraft 1.21.1 to Minecraft 26.1.x and 26.2.x.

"Imagine stepping through a portal into a twilight realm, filled with trees as far as the eye can see. Breathtaking vistas and amazing discoveries await you around every corner. But beware! Not all denizens of the forest respond to your intrusion lightly."

Twilight Forest is a dimension exploration mod focused on adventure that will take you on a journey to meet strange creatures, exploring dungeons, and much more.

Features

  • A Mysterious New Dimension — Enter the Twilight Forest through a water-and-flower portal and discover a vast, enchanted realm.
  • Progressive Boss Progression — Defeat towering bosses such as the Naga, Lich, Hydra, Ur-Ghast, and the Snow Queen, each with unique mechanics.
  • Fully-Fledged Dungeons — Explore labyrinthine mazes, hollow hills, dark towers, troll caves, and a stronghold beneath the forest.
  • Rich Biomes — Traverse enchanted forests, fiery swamps, snowy glaciers, ominous darklands, and magical mushroom fields.
  • Unique Items & Equipment — Wield the Glass Sword, craft magical potions, build with twilight wood variants, and discover powerful artifacts.

Getting Started

alt text

  1. Build a frame of natural blocks (grass, dirt, podzol, mycelium, etc.)
  2. Line the top edge with flowers, mushrooms, leaves, or plants
  3. Fill the frame completely with water
  4. Throw a diamond into the water to activate the portal

The portal can be built in any shape or size — the only requirements are the materials listed above.

  • Modified files are marked with notices of change.
  • You are free to use, modify, and distribute the code, including in modpacks (even paid ones), provided derivative work is licensed under LGPL 2.1.

Visual Assets (textures, models, artwork, etc.) — Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International

  • Original assets by TeamTwilight / Benimatic.
  • You may share and adapt these assets for non-commercial purposes only, with proper attribution and under the same license.

Sound Assets — sourced from the Twilight Forest Unofficial repository.

  • Most sound assets are derived from the Minecraft 1.7.10 version of Twilight Forest and remain under LGPL-2.1.
  • Other sound assets (including findings.ogg, home.ogg, maker.ogg, motion.ogg, radiance.ogg, steps.ogg, superstitious.ogg, thread.ogg, wayfarer.ogg, and those under mob/alpha_yeti/*, mob/deer/*, mob/mist_wolf/*, mob/tome/*) are either removed (0 bytes), created by the Unofficial team under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, or CC-compatible free sounds.
  • See the original LICENSE for details: marlester-dev/twilightforest-unofficial/LICENSE

Structure Assets — sourced from the Twilight Forest Unofficial repository, based on Minecraft 1.20.1 structure assets.

  • The structure assets used in this port are derived from the official Twilight Forest 1.20.1 version.
  • Important: In the official 1.20.1 branch, structure assets were not explicitly declared as "All Rights Reserved." The "All Rights Reserved" declaration for structures only appeared in later versions (starting from 1.21.1).
  • Therefore, using these 1.20.1-based structure assets under the Unofficial repository's licensing terms (LGPL-2.1 for code-related parts, CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 for non-code assets) is legally compliant.
  • See the original LICENSE for details: marlester-dev/twilightforest-unofficial/LICENSE

Known Differences from the Official Version

Because this port uses sound and structure assets sourced from the Twilight Forest Unofficial repository, some structures — most notably the Lich Tower — are based on older designs (specifically from the Minecraft 1.7.10 era) rather than the latest official versions.

Why are structure assets based on 1.20.1, not 1.21.1?

  • The official Twilight Forest project declared structure assets as "All Rights Reserved" starting from version 1.21.1.
  • This port does not have permission to use those 1.21.1 structure assets.
  • Instead, it uses structure assets sourced from the Unofficial repository, which are based on the 1.20.1 version of Twilight Forest — a version where structure assets were not placed under "All Rights Reserved."
  • This is a legal compliance measure, not a technical limitation.

We appreciate your understanding.

Sound Assets — Potential Missing Audio

Due to the nature of the Unofficial repository's licensing and cleanup process, some sound assets originally present in the official mod have been removed (reduced to 0 bytes) to avoid copyright issues. As a result, you may encounter missing or silent sound effects while playing this port.

If you come across any missing sounds or audio glitches, please report them on my GitHub Issues page. When reporting, please include:

  • The specific sound or event where audio is missing
  • The in-game context
  • Any relevant log output (if available)

I will do my best to address these issues by either:

  • Creating and adding similar replacement sound effects, or
  • Directly referencing and remapping to suitable vanilla Minecraft sound effects where appropriate.

Your feedback is invaluable in helping improve the audio experience of this port. Thank you for your understanding and support!
