Description

Vanilla Livestock

Vanilla Livestock is my first Minecraft mod, made for Forge 1.20.1.

The idea is to make vanilla farm animals feel more alive without replacing them or changing the Minecraft style too much. It adds systems for taking care of animals, breeding them and giving them more natural routines.

Features

  • Male and female animals for cows, pigs, chickens, sheep, horses and wolves.
  • Hunger and thirst systems.
  • Feeding and water troughs.
  • Connected troughs with shared capacity.
  • Water bottles hydrate animals directly, but only buckets can fill troughs.
  • Animals look for food, water, grass and shelter.
  • Animals only graze when they need food.
  • Sleeping and resting behavior.
  • Wild wolves stay awake at night; tamed wolves can rest when sitting.
  • Chickens seek shelter at night and during rain.
  • Natural twig nests and craftable nests.
  • Chickens can lay eggs in nests, chicken houses and coops.
  • Normal and fertilized eggs.
  • Egg storage and incubation timers.
  • Brooding hens that stay with fertilized eggs and leave to eat or drink.
  • Pregnancy and improved breeding.
  • Horse offspring can inherit speed, health and jump traits.
  • Horse speed is affected by hunger and thirst.
  • Golden apples can improve horse breeding results.
  • Animal quality for cows, pigs, sheep and chickens.
  • Quality can affect meat, milk, eggs and wool.
  • Well-cared-for sheep regrow wool faster.
  • Quality inheritance between parents and offspring.
  • Salted grass and soil fertility mechanics.
  • Salted areas can be recovered and made fertile again.
  • Optional natural grass growth near active players.
  • English and Brazilian Portuguese translations.
  • Configurable systems for different modpacks.

Optional integrations:

Jade is strongly recommended. It shows information about animals, their needs, care level, quality, nests, troughs and other farm blocks.

Patchouli is optional, but highly recommended. When installed, it adds the in-game farm guide with explanations about the mod's systems.

Quality Food is optional, but strongly recommended for the quality system. It adds iron, gold and diamond quality levels, different food tiers and quality effects for animal products.

Incubation is optional. Vanilla Livestock keeps its own egg, breeding and incubation logic, while supporting compatible visuals from Incubation.

Configuration

Many systems can be changed or disabled, including hunger, thirst, sleeping, gender, modded breeding, natural grass growth, animal quality and individual animal support.

You can also use vanilla-style behavior if you do not want some of the extra systems.

Planned features

  • Animal bonds and owner recognition.
  • Moods and age stages.
  • Better shelter and home routines.
  • Smaller troughs for chickens, rabbits and other small animals.
  • More support for rabbits, goats, cats, ocelots, llamas, mules and other animals.
  • More natural grass growth and biome-based flowers.
  • More vanilla-style animations and visual improvements.
  • Optional CEM/EMF and Pehkui compatibility.
  • Compatibility with selected animal mods.
  • Husbandry-style advancements.
  • A lighter version focused only on mechanics.

Vanilla Livestock is still in Alpha, so mechanics, balance and visuals may change during development. This is my first mod, so bugs are possible, but I’m trying to keep it stable and close to vanilla Minecraft.

Suggestions, feedback and bug reports are welcome. Help with vanilla-style textures, models or animations is also appreciated.

Inspiration

The main inspiration for Vanilla Livestock comes from Animania and from the original way Minecraft handles its animals. The goal is to bring some of those ideas into a simpler, more vanilla-style experience.
