Vanish Lite

A tiny server-side mod that adds a /vanish command for Forge 1.20.1. Players do not need to install anything.

Heads-up: this mod is vibe coded. It was written with the help of an AI assistant (Claude) and has only been tested on a single modded server, so expect rough edges. Use it at your own risk and please report bugs in the comments.

What it does

  • /vanish toggles vanish for whoever types it. Every player can use it, no OP needed.
  • Hides you from the tab list for other players. In your own tab list you see [VANISH] in front of your name, so you always know it is on.
  • Removes you from other players' clients, so you do not show up on Xaero's Minimap or World Map.
  • Hides "joined the game", "left the game", advancement and death messages about you, including kill messages where you are the killer. You still see your own messages.
  • Vanish stays on across relogs until you turn it off (saved in config/vanishlite-state.txt). Type /vanish once and reconnect to join silently.

Installation

Put the jar into the mods folder of your Forge 1.20.1 server and restart. It is not needed on the client.

What is NOT hidden

  • Chat messages you type
  • /list and the player count in the server list
  • Simple Voice Chat audio and sounds near other players
  • Party location sharing of Open Parties and Claims (check its own settings)
  • Join/leave announcements or player corpses added by other mods, for example Discord bridges

Compatibility

Forge 1.20.1 (47.x), server-side only. Other mods that change the tab list or chat messages may interfere. If something breaks, please tell me which mods you are running.
