Description
Villager Union
Villagers have rights now. No boxes, no boats, no basements.
Villagers trade fairly when they are at work: at their own workstation, in a real shop, during work hours. Lock one in a 1x1 cell or a boat and the union steps in: it overcharges, or won't trade at all. Build it a proper shop instead, and it trades cheaper, levels up faster, makes what sells out right in front of you and, once a master, takes special orders for gear no trade gives.
The mod doesn't ban trading halls. It makes an honest market worth more than a basement full of prisoners, and it fixes the reason those basements exist: finding the librarian with the right book.
What you get
Fair prices. The price follows how the villager is doing: at its shop (normal, or cheaper at a good one), away from it (+25%), after hours (+50%), without a shop (+50%), locked in (+100%), in a boat (refuses). Vanilla discounts still apply on top, and nothing is baked into the offers. A colored line over the trading screen tells you why, and a small number under each offer shows how many are left.
Stall, Shop, Store. A workstation near the village bell is a stall. A roof, light, a sign, a chest and the trade's own things make it a shop; a real building with walls, windows, a door, a counter and every station of the trade makes it a store. The houses a village is built with are shops already. Better shops trade cheaper and level their villager up 25% / 50% faster. Smiths side by side can share one forge. All rules are datapack JSON.
Villagers at work. Buy out a weaponsmith's swords and it goes to forge more: it heats an ingot in the lava, hammers it on the anvil, quenches it with a hiss of steam and sharpens it on the grindstone, the sword in its hands at the end. Every profession has its own round: a librarian writes at its lectern, a fisherman fishes and smokes the catch, a butcher cuts meat on the chains. A few minutes later the swords are back for sale.
Stations matter. No forge, no iron sword: the villager tells you what its shop lacks. No grindstone, and the sword comes out dull, with less durability and a red line saying why.
Restocks twice a day. A morning and an afternoon delivery, not every ten minutes as in vanilla. Sold out means sold out for a while.
Special orders. A master in a store takes an order for half the price and a ticket, then works on it for three days and sells nothing meanwhile. Bring the ticket back for diamond gear with three to five enchantments, a book at the highest levels, maps to a mansion or a monument… Good, excellent or a masterwork, and you only see which when you collect it. A tired master makes fewer masterworks.
Merchant's Ledger. Right-click a villager or a workstation to see what the shop has and what it lacks. Right-click the air for an album: a page for every profession with its trades and what its shop needs, your village with its traders, and blueprints.
Blueprints. A workshop for each of the 13 professions comes with the mod, plus your own structure files and Litematica schematics. Put a see-through ghost in the world and build it layer by layer with a list of what is still missing. Show the ghost to your friends (key J) and build one house together. In creative, watch it go up block by block, like in a trailer.
Shop Sign and Market Board. The sign shows OPEN or CLOSED and gives a redstone signal while open. The board lists every trader in the village: profession, shop, open or closed, every offer, enchanted books spelled out. Search for "Mending", click the librarian, and it glows.
Village market. What you sell to villagers goes to a warehouse at the bell, and the village uses it up day by day. Short of a good, villagers pay better; flooded, worse. No more selling one item forever.
Labor laws. Set the working day at the bell. Overworked villagers get tired, then take sick leave; villagers kept indoors with no time off get bored and gloomy. Without laws, nobody gets tired. The union approves.
Labor contract. Hire a villager for a few emeralds: it follows you like a pet and settles at a new workstation. The humane way to move villagers.
Showcase. /fairtrade demo builds a street of 13 workshops around you, every villager at work.
Compatibility
- Minecraft 26.2 and 26.3, on Fabric (requires Fabric API) or NeoForge.
- Optional: Mod Menu on Fabric for the settings screen (on NeoForge it is the Config button in the mod list;
/fairtrade configopens it anywhere), Jade for villager state, shop tier, price and fatigue at a glance. - Install it on the server. With
register_content: falsein the config, players without the mod can join too: prices and messages work, the blocks and items are off. - Iron farms, breeding, raids and zombie curing work as in vanilla. Wandering traders are left alone by default.
- Everything can be turned off or tuned:
config/fairtrade.json,/fairtrade configor Mod Menu.
How it was made
The code was written with an AI assistant (Claude) following my design: I came up with the features, made the decisions and tested them in game. The icon is mine. The ledger texture started as the assistant's draft and I finished it in Aseprite.
Differences from similar mods
- Find My Villager remembers villagers you have already opened; the market board here lists every trader around it without visiting them, and shows whether their shop is open.
- Villager Rebalance fights reroll and curing exploits; Villager Union changes prices by where and how the villager works, and adds shops, crafting, orders, the board, contracts and laws.

Mod Menu.
Благодарности: bombarik, за идеи и тестирование. Модель плаката: martyr_1.
