Description

Water World - The Atoll

banner

Turn Minecraft’s empty oceans into living floating settlements.

Water World: The Atoll is a Fabric mod that introduces procedurally generated atolls, active fishing communities, floating trade posts, new villager boat behaviors, and a practical block for building directly on water.

Instead of sailing through endless empty ocean, you can discover fortified settlements built from wood, scrap metal, chains, platforms, and stilt houses. Fishermen row across the lagoon, cast fishing rods, leave through the main gate, explore the open sea, and sometimes return home.

Every atoll becomes a small, living ocean community.

Key Features

Procedurally Generated Atolls

Atolls generate naturally across ocean biomes.

Each settlement uses procedural rules, making its layout, walls, buildings, and skyline feel different from the previous one.

Atolls include:

  • Irregular scrap metal defensive walls
  • A protected central lagoon
  • Four to seven stilt huts
  • Circular wooden walkways
  • Lookout towers
  • Hanging chains and lanterns
  • A large navigable water gate
  • Villagers living and working around the settlement

The outer wall uses naturally changing heights and wavy contours instead of forming a perfect circle. Some wall sections remain low, while others rise high above the ocean.

This gives every atoll a handmade, improvised appearance.

Stilt Huts and Lagoon Walkways

Each atoll contains between four and seven wooden huts attached directly to the defensive wall.

The huts open onto a circular wooden walkway positioned just above water level, allowing villagers and players to move around the settlement without swimming.

The layout creates a compact floating village built around the central lagoon.

Lookout Towers

Watchtowers appear around the outer wall at different heights.

They feature:

  • Wooden log supports
  • Ladders
  • Small covered roofs
  • Elevated observation points
  • Views toward the lagoon and open ocean

Several villagers stand on the walls and watch the horizon, making the settlement feel guarded and inhabited.

Navigable North Gate

Each atoll includes a wide water entrance facing north.

The gate is marked by:

  • A large oak log arch
  • Hanging chains
  • Lanterns
  • Enough space for boats to pass through

The entrance connects the protected lagoon with the open ocean.

Villager fishermen can locate the gate, leave the settlement, explore the sea, and potentially return.

Active Fisherman Villagers

Fishermen are not static decorations.

They actively use boats and patrol the waters around their settlement.

Lagoon Rowing

Fishermen search for empty boats, board them, and row around the lagoon.

Their movement makes the settlement feel active even when the player is only watching from a distance.

Open Ocean Exploration

Some fishermen can navigate toward the North Gate and leave the atoll.

Once outside, they explore a larger area of the surrounding ocean.

They may later find their way back through the gate and return to the lagoon.

Dynamic Fishing

While rowing, fishermen periodically stop to fish.

They:

  1. Pause their boat
  2. Equip a fishing rod
  3. Cast into the water
  4. Trigger splash sounds and bubble particles
  5. Reel in a real fish item

Possible catches include:

  • Cod
  • Salmon
  • Pufferfish
  • Tropical fish

The caught fish physically flies out of the water, creating a visible and satisfying fishing animation.

Permanent Mariner Crews

Fishermen travelling in boats ignore standard village routines such as:

  • Sleeping in beds
  • Gathering at meeting points
  • Wandering back into houses

This keeps them focused on patrolling, exploring, and fishing.

Automatic Boat Recovery

A fisherman who falls into the water can quickly recover.

If no boat is available, the villager can create a new oak boat directly underneath themselves and immediately board it.

This prevents mariners from becoming permanently stranded in the ocean.

Floating Trade Post

A floating merchant platform generates near the eastern side of each atoll.

The Trade Post includes:

  • A stilt-supported wooden platform
  • A red and white wool canopy
  • A hanging lantern
  • A Cartography Table
  • An ocean exploration loot chest
  • A dedicated Cartographer villager

The cartographer has a locked profession, helping the Trade Post remain functional and visually consistent.

The loot chest can contain maps and exploration-related treasures, giving players another reason to investigate each settlement.

Atoll Seed Block

The Atoll Seed Block helps players expand their own settlements across the ocean.

It uses textures inspired by compacted kelp and mud.

Unlike normal blocks, it can be placed directly on the surface of water.

Use it to:

  • Start floating bases
  • Build ocean platforms
  • Expand existing atolls
  • Create bridges between structures
  • Establish foundations without building from the seabed

The block acts as a solid foundation, making large water construction projects faster and easier.

Why Install Water World: The Atoll?

Water World: The Atoll is designed for players who want oceans to feel more alive.

It adds:

  • New structures to discover
  • Procedural settlement layouts
  • Living ocean communities
  • Advanced villager boat behavior
  • Visible fishing interactions
  • Exploration rewards
  • New possibilities for building on water

Explore the oceans.

Find the atolls.

Trade with their inhabitants.

Watch fishermen leave the lagoon and disappear beyond the horizon.

Or use the Atoll Seed Block to build a floating settlement of your own.
