Description

Wayrune

Craft a Wayrune, place it, and save the spot to your own list of 20. Travel between your spots through a simple menu and pay XP based on distance and dimension. Dye any Wayrune to color-code your spots.

Download both files: the data pack and the required resource pack (listed under "Supplementary resources" on the version page). The resource pack gives the Wayrune its look.

Wayrunes

How it works

  1. Collect a Rune Shard by defeating monsters (see below).
  2. Craft a Wayrune (recipe below).
  3. Place it. The spot is saved to your own list automatically.
  4. Right-click the Wayrune to open the menu. It shows your total XP, and each spot with its distance and price.
  5. Click Go and stand still for about a second while the summoning effect plays. Moving or taking damage cancels it, and nothing is charged.
  6. Break a Wayrune to free its slot. Mine it like a normal block (a pickaxe makes it easier). It drops as an item, and keeps its dye color.

Each player has their own 20 spots, so your list is yours alone.

Items

Rune Shard

A glowing shard that monsters sometimes drop when you defeat them. Nether mobs drop them more often, bosses always drop one, and Looting helps. Shards are used to craft Wayrunes and Runewarps.

Rune Shard

Runewarp

A single-use scroll for a quick trip. Right-click it, pick a spot, and you teleport once. No XP cost. If you close the menu without picking a spot, the scroll is not used up.

Recipes

Wayrune: 6 stone bricks, 1 compass, 1 ender pearl and 1 Rune Shard.

Travel cost (XP only)

Trips under 100 blocks are free. Longer trips cost 20 XP plus 1 XP for every 25 blocks of sideways distance, up to a maximum of 2,000 XP.

Distance Cost
0 to 99 blocks Free
500 blocks 40 XP
1,000 blocks 60 XP
5,000 blocks 220 XP
10,000 blocks 420 XP

Going between dimensions adds a fee:

  • Overworld ↔ Nether: +60 XP
  • Overworld ↔ End: +120 XP
  • Nether ↔ End: +180 XP

Nether coordinates count 8:1 so distances compare fairly. Creative mode is free. Runewarps are always free. If you can't afford a trip, nothing is taken and nothing happens.

Each Go button shows its XP cost and a ■ in the color of its dyed Wayrune.

The distance and price are shown on each Go button before you click.

Dye your Wayrunes

Right-click a placed Wayrune while holding any dye to change its glow color. Everyone sees the same color, and one dye is used (free in creative). Dyed Wayrunes show a matching colored ■ next to their name in the menu, so spots are easy to tell apart. A Wayrune that was never dyed shows no square.

Rename your spots

  1. Click Rename... in the menu.
  2. Click the top button (it shows the current spot, like "Spot: Spot 18") to choose which spot you want to rename. Click it again to cycle to the next one.
  3. Pick a quick name (Base, Farm, Mine, Village and more), or type your own custom name of up to 16 letters and click Save custom name.
  4. Click Reset name to go back to the default name.

Click Rename... in the menu to name your spots.

Choose the spot at the top, then pick a quick name or type your own, up to 16 letters.

Note: when you save a custom name, Minecraft shows a "Confirm Command Execution" screen.

This is normal. Click Run Command to save the name.

Minecraft asks you to confirm when you save a custom name. Click Run Command.

Playing on a server

Wayrunes belong to the player who placed them. By default, only the owner can break, recolor or open their Wayrune, so nobody can grief your spots. Creative-mode players can bypass this.

Operators can turn the protection off or back on:

  • /function waystone:config/lock_off
  • /function waystone:config/lock_on

Resource pack (required)

The resource pack gives the Wayrune, Rune Shard and Runewarp their custom look.

Without the resource pack, the data pack still works, but the items won't have their custom look and may show up wrong. On a server, players need the resource pack too, either installed themselves or sent by the server.

Install

  1. Download both files from the version page: the data pack and the required resource pack.
  2. Put the data pack in your world's datapacks folder.
  3. Put the resource pack in your resourcepacks folder and enable it.
  4. Join the world. If you add it to an existing world, run /reload once.
