Description
Worthwhile Wandering Trader
A wandering trader worth stopping for.
Worthwhile Wandering Trader replaces the wandering trader's flowers and dyes with goods that are hard to get otherwise: a chance at a Heart of the Sea or a Totem of Undying, music discs, armor trim templates, explorer maps and building blocks from far-away biomes. The trader also buys a few things you have lying around, such as hay bales and baked potatoes.
Server-side only. Players join with a plain vanilla client and trade as usual.
Features
- New trades. Every wandering trader offers 3 buy trades and 8 sell trades: 1 very rare (25% chance), 4 rare and 3 useful. When the very rare roll fails, the trader gets a fifth rare trade instead.
- Different every time. Each trader picks its trades at random, and items such as music discs, trim templates, logs and goat horns are picked at random per trader. No trade appears twice on one trader.
- Explorer maps. A map trade leads to the nearest village, desert pyramid, jungle temple, ancient city or trial chambers (1.21.1) that is not on any other map yet, just like a cartographer's map. When nothing is found nearby, the trader offers another rare trade instead.
- Everything is configurable. Prices, amounts, uses, slots per group, the very rare chance and the map search radius. Any item can be used, including items from other mods.
- Replace or add. By default the vanilla trades are replaced. The
addmode keeps them and adds the configured trades after them. - Vanilla feel. Same experience reward, no restocking, the normal trading screen.
Default trades
| Group | Trades |
|---|---|
| Buy (3) | Hay Bale, Water Bottle, Baked Potatoes, Milk Bucket, Water Bucket, Fermented Spider Eye |
| Very rare (1, 25%) | Heart of the Sea, Sniffer Egg, Totem of Undying, Trident |
| Rare (4) | Name Tag, Saddle, Music Disc, Armor Trim Template, Sponge, Echo Shard, Goat Horn, Ender Pearls, Eye of Ender, Explorer Map |
| Useful (3) | Ice, Logs, Saplings, Mob Head, Pottery Sherd, Nautilus Shell |
Prices and amounts are listed in the README.
Configuration
config/worthwhilewanderingtrader-server.toml is created on the first start with every default trade and comments for each option. The mod never rewrites it.
mode = "replace"
buySlots = 3
veryRareSlots = 1
veryRareChance = 0.25
rareSlots = 4
usefulSlots = 3
mapSearchRadius = 100
[[rare]]
price = { item = "minecraft:emerald", count = 8 }
result = { item = "minecraft:name_tag", count = 1 }
maxUses = 2
Trades can have a second price, a random item from a list, a potion, a goat horn instrument or an explorer map to any structure or structure tag. Mistakes never crash the server: invalid entries are skipped with a warning in the log.
Server-side only
The mod adds no items, blocks, entities or network messages. Install it on the server; vanilla clients and clients without the mod can join and trade. In singleplayer, install it in your own game.
Safe to remove
Traders that already picked their trades keep them, including maps. New traders get vanilla trades again.
Requirements
| Minecraft | Loaders |
|---|---|
| 1.21.1 | NeoForge 21.1.1+, Forge 52.0.0+, Fabric (1.21–1.21.1) with Fabric API |
| 1.20.1 | Forge 47.1.0+ (also runs on NeoForge 1.20.1), Fabric (1.20–1.20.1) with Fabric API |
On 1.20.1 there is no trial chambers map, and maps other than mansion and monument are marked with a red X, since 1.20.1 has no icons for them.
Compatibility
- Mods that add wandering trader trades through the usual loader event: in
replacemode they are replaced along with the vanilla trades, inaddmode they stay. - Async Locator does not cover this mod's map searches. If a map search causes a short pause, lower
mapSearchRadius. - Other mods that change how the wandering trader picks its trades may conflict.
