Every so often, you’re forced to choose between two permanent trade-offs. Stats change, controls shift, and visuals glitch. Both halves take effect immediately and neither wears off. How long can you survive the mess you build?

Description

Would You Rather (WYRBB)

Every so often—at an interval you set—the game pauses and drops a decision on your screen. Two choices. Each gives you a permanent benefit and exacts a permanent price. You pick one. Both take effect immediately. Neither wears off.

Twenty questions into a world, you aren’t playing vanilla Minecraft anymore. You’re playing whatever ecosystem you built by accident, one bad decision at a time.

The Catalogue

Instead of a hand-written list, a dynamic composer generates over 500 unique dilemmas at startup from a pool of over 120 individual traits. Every trait carries a calculated weight. A dilemma only spawns if both options are genuinely costly and strictly balanced: no free lunches, no clear-cut choices, and no traps with an obviously inferior side. Adding a single trait to the pool widens every question in the game.

Mechanical Alterations

Most traits tweak base engine attributes—jump height, gravity scale, reach distance, mining rate, armor ratings, and knockback resistance. These modify raw attributes directly, avoiding temporary status icons. A few add permanent potion conditions, while others enforce continuous rules: catching fire in daylight, drowning on dry land, or glowing continuously.

Perceptual Disruptions

Certain traits alter input and visual processing rather than underlying stats, forcing you to question your environment:

  • Liar's Eyes — Random blocks render as entirely different block types.
  • Hollow Sight — Selected blocks become completely invisible while remaining solid.
  • Muddled Hands / Mimic Names — Held inventory items display incorrect textures or mislabeled names.
  • Miscounted — Stack counters misreport item counts.
  • Lying Hearts — The health bar displays an inaccurate heart total.
  • Haunted — Triggers ambient, non-existent audio cues.
  • False Pain — Triggers hurt animations and grunts without inflicting damage.
  • Crooked Grip — Held items render at distorted held angles.
  • Locked Radio — Locks a single music disc on permanent, unmutable loop, growing louder with every additional stack. It plays outside the game's own audio engine entirely, so it does not answer to any in-game slider — including Master. Turning the game's volume all the way down will not stop it.

Camera & Input Shifts

Direct manipulation of camera control and user input handling:

  • Zoom / Locked Lens — Restricts field-of-view permanently or locks it to a static value overriding settings.
  • Seasick — Introduces continuous pitch and roll rotation to the camera horizon.
  • Tunnel Vision — Applies heavy persistent vignetting to screen edges.
  • Molasses / Twitchy — Modifies mouse sensitivity dynamically, under- or over-rotating input.
  • Inverted — Escalates with stacked instances: vertical inversion, horizontal inversion, keybind swapping, and primary mouse button swaps.

World Rules

Environment-altering traits that change baseline interactions:

  • No Crafting Table / Portable Crafting — Blocks access to standard crafting tables, or grants constant UI crafting access.
  • No Furnace / Instant Smelt — Prevents furnace UI interaction, or auto-smelts mined ores instantly.
  • Withering Touch / Green Thumb — Causes nearby crops to decay instantly, or triggers accelerated growth nearby.
  • Cursed Ground / Never Trample — Breaks grass blocks walked on, or renders farmland immune to trampling.
  • Reeking / Peace Offering — Aggro ranges lock onto your location continuously, or hostile mobs ignore presence until damaged.
  • Scarecrow / Beastfriend — Passive livestock flee on approach, or pathfind toward you automatically.
  • Danger Seeker — Spawns aggressive entities near your position periodically.

Managing Debts & Trade

Every accepted deal is logged by the system—tracking the exact buff linked to its corresponding drawback.

Press K (default) to open the trait manager. The UI features search and filter functions to review current traits grouped by gain or cost. Hovering over a penalty displays its precise mechanical breakdown rather than just a title.

Clearing Debts

You can purge specific penalties in two ways:

  1. Break the Deal: Surrender both the positive benefit and its linked penalty simultaneously.
  2. Buyout: Pay an inflated cost to clear the penalty while retaining the benefit.

Cost scaling applies based on severity and usage frequency. The first buyout is cheap; repeated buyouts become exponentially expensive.

Player Trading

Deals can be offered to other players. The recipient must manually accept the transfer screen, passing both the benefit and the penalty to their profile.

Multiplayer & Networking

  • Client Dependency: The UI renders natively on the client. Every player must have the mod installed to see questions. There is no server-only fallback.
  • Player Isolation: Each player receives unique questions and maintains independent trait rosters.
  • Server Security: All trait operations, UI requests, and admin actions perform strict server-side validation to prevent client packet manipulation.

Administration & Configuration

The mod is disabled by default upon world creation and must be explicitly toggled on per save file.

Server operators have access to an administrative control panel to:

  • Adjust global prompt timers and selection timeouts.
  • Force-trigger choice prompts across the server on demand.
  • Inspect exact, verified player trait inventories in real time.
  • Directly grant, revoke, or wipe player traits individually or globally.

Requirements

  • Loader: Fabric
  • Minecraft Version: 1.21.1 or 26.2
  • Dependencies: Fabric API
  • Supported Languages: English, European Portuguese (pt_PT)
