About

Description

Previously named "Simple Rope".

This mod adds one item: rope. It can be placed on the side or underside of blocks, and more rope can be dropped down from there. It can also be pulled back up.

The idea behind this mod is to create an easier way to climb down from ledges (for example, in a cave or on a tower) without having to use something like a waterfall. I also wanted to make a mod that integrates well with the vanilla experience.

More is planned in future updates.

Recipes

Crafting recipe: 3 string in a vertical line makes 8 rope.Crafting recipe: 3 vines in a vertical line makes 6 rope.

How to use

You can place a rope on the side or bottom of a solid block. Right click with rope in your hand to extend the rope downwards; right click with an empty hand to pull it back up. You can also right click with any placeable block in your hand (as if placing the block on the rope) to place it at the bottom of the rope (directly below the end of the rope).

Rope blocks also interact with comparators and dispensers. See below.

Redstone functionality:

If a dispenser containing rope is activated while facing into any part of a rope, what happens depends on whether the block it's facing into is powered:
  • If it's powered, it will try to pull the rope up, adding it to the dispenser's inventory. (Note that dispensers must have at least one rope in them for this to work, and that they can't remove the attachment point (top block) of the rope.)
  • If it's not powered, it will try to drop the rope down, removing it from the dispenser's inventory.
Any part of the rope besides the attachment point at the top always outputs a comparator signal of 15 (the highest). The attachment point (top block) of the rope behaves differently:
  • If it's powered, it outputs 15 if the rope could be pulled up by a dispenser (i.e. if there are any rope blocks connected to it) and 0 otherwise.
  • If it's not powered, it outputs 15 if the rope could be dropped down by a dispenser (i.e. if there is any space below the rope) and 0 otherwise.

About the new version

This mod received somewhat of an overhaul in version 2.0.0 and was simultaneously ported to 1.20.1 Forge. 1.20.1 Forge is the current supported version as of now. 1.21.4 and 1.21.5 versions are outdated and no longer supported.

Information for versions before 2.0.0:

The recipes were different: three wool in a vertical line made six rope, and three vines in a vertical line made 2 rope. As of version 1.1.0, you could also craft rope using a similar recipe (a line of 3 vertically) with weeping vines or twisting vines. These recipes were removed in version 2.0.0.

Mod integration

This mod is compatible with and has integration (albeit just masses for the blocks) with Eureka! Ships!.
