Description

Welcome to The Rift!

The goal at first was to create a modpack with mods from the peak of my Minecraft days, plus some new ones. As I was putting together the pack a question came to me: What would happen to a world that began with normal technological advancement, then it discovered magic? And what if some people held to technology through the years, while others pursued magical discoveries? This divide, this Rift, between the people could bring them to a civil war and that would, undoubtedly, wreak havoc on the world and environment. So then if tech has nukes and magic has nova cataclysms, then the Rift wouldn't just be the philosophical debate, but the remains of the front line of the war. The front line that irreparably destroyed the landscape and scarred the land. The physical divide to represent the mental one, one side free to advance technology and one side to dive deeper into the magical mysteries.

I'd love to create a server with the spawn area being a huge scar in the land and a town on either side, one for magic and another for technology. Maybe I'll get there. For now, please enjoy this pack. It's my first attempt at this. Please feel free to leave comments and suggestions, even ideas on how other modpacks have configured mods I have here.

I didn't create anything included here, I only installed the mods I liked and used other mods for optimization and customization. Credit is due to the mod authors for their work and use permissions.

Tips for starting out:

1. Find gravel and get flint.

2. Break leaves (or the small brown desert plants) for sticks.

3. Create flint knife.

4. Get string from spiders or webs. Or make plant fiber string from sugar cane with knife in off-hand (F by default) and right click with sugar cane in main hand.

5. Create flint hatchet

6. Find shelter (a village is best because they'll have crafting tables and lots of resources but there are random structures that will provide planks and other resources so you can create a crafting table until you get a saw.)

7. Get early XP by farming crops and start leveling up the different traits.

8. Get out an explore (craft a sleeping bag for sleeping on the go without changing your spawn). There are resources everywhere, lots of biomes, lots of random structures, but beware the blood moons. These will be very difficult in the early stages of your game.

Potential Mod Additions:

  • FTB Utilities
  • Mystcraft
  • Tinkers' Complement
