Beyond The Vale - A Low-Tech Hardcore Solution
No reviews yet
A very low-tech approach to the hardcore / expert mode label for packs, focusing instead on complexity instead of layered crafting that makes zero damn sense.
Does not follow a specific thematic focus apart from vanilla Minecraft.
Centered around complex tech and/or magic where large-scale automation is necessary, often taking many hours to craft items and hundreds or thousands of hours to fully complete.
Centers around fantasy elements such as spells, rituals, and magical energies, often involving personal empowerment and magical automation.
Centers on surviving in harsh conditions, managing resources, and fending off PvE threats.
Features tech with a primitive, prehistoric, or medieval theme, reminiscent of machines from pre 15th century eras.
Features machines that process raw materials or automation processes.
Includes quests that drive progression, whether through a quest book, NPC, or other in world source.
Designed to be difficult and challenging for experienced players, often with many hours of gameplay.
Features a progression system with stages or gates that must be unlocked.
Forge is a popular mod loader for versions 1.1+ of Minecraft.

About
Description
Starting from what was a simple goal to have an expert-mode but hardcore pack for myself that *didn't* rely on needlessly large and complex crafting trees to artificially simulate difficulty, this project was born. Featuring Better With Mods, Rustic, and Earthworks as the core mods of the pack, you will be fully expected to learn Better With Mods to a certain degree. Before you decide to jump in feet first though, ask yourself a few questions.
- Is fully automating things with vanilla and vanilla-esque contraptions your type of game? Then good!
- Do you enjoy punishing starts and difficulty not tied to crafting, that eventually will lead to a more lax endgame of danger?
- Do you enjoy stacking thousands of clay, because it is the pinnacle of balance™? (Being facetious don't hate me pls)
- Are you one to enjoy custom tailored ore generation? Then you will be in luck, as this pack has ore generation thanks to CoFH World that is tailored to the Better With Mods HCStrata system, having Gaussian layers of ore most common in one of the three strata layers of the Overworld and Nether!
- Most importantly, do you enjoy mods that you may have never seen before, and enjoy learning them through a quest book vague tutorial?
However! Those are not the only main draws of such an adventure. Most of the recipe changes and nerfs/buffs/random kneecapping of certain mechanics are not done to spite the player or force artificial difficulty upon them, but are instead done to form a cohesive bond between the three core mods and force you to learn how to use and love them, as well as make certain Earthworks building materials way more accessible in bulk.
If this sounds like your type of thing, then I fully encourage you to give the pack a try. Obviously at the moment it is a work in progress, and things can and probably will be added, changed, and/or removed with or without notice, so until later on, please be aware of this.
PLANS FOR THE (IMMEDIATE) FUTURE
- Finish up Age I of Better With Mods
- Begin to make custom HCStrata support for missing mods that need it (MCA mainly)
- Make all Earthworks base items craftable in Condenser for easy building in bulk
- Configure custom End ore generation of mostly Gems to gate GlassHearts
