INSTALLATION GUIDE:
-FOR NEWER VERSIONS (1.20.1): Please install Unstable Bliss (click) for a new and updated shader look. THEN replace block.properties in the shader's zip with one provided with the modpack (thank you, Xonk!)
- I recommend you additionally download The Asphyxious Custom Pack (click) from Planet Minecraft to support its amazing author. (thank you, Asp!)
The idea for the pack came from my dislike of modern Minecraft "dweller slop" that just adds one invulnerable, one-shotting enemy.
Personally, I think that the slow-paced "survival horror" genre fits Minecraft gameplay a lot more than "cheap screamer horror," so I took inspiration from my favorite horror game franchise, "Silent Hill," and this particular YouTube video to create Cold Mist.
Feature overview:
- A custom mod made specifically for this project, adding "the hunting AI" (Situational Silence)
- New inventory system inspired by RE4 and Diablo
- Mobs can hear you and break and place blocks, but need a direct eye contact to spot you, so you can stealth
- Undead creatures require you to spend torches to set them on fire first, or they will be almost immortal (Consecration)
- No natural healing: healing items can be crafted from silver ingots, but ores can only be found in caves and other dangerous places
- Finite torches that burn even in your inventory, no infinite dynamic light sources, more costly recipes and limited access to placeable infinite light sources
- You will have a few days before the hostile mobs are able to spawn, giving you time to prepare and increasing the suspense before meeting them
- Respawning only on the Respawn Obelisks that can not be moved and have limited amount of charges; beds now only skip about 1-2 hours of night
- New content mods, such as Biomancy, Roots Classic, Reliquary Reincarnations, Ice and Fire, Mowzie's Mobs and others
- Abundance of new structures
- Temperature (that is where "Cold" in the name comes from)
- Custom mod textures to make the modpack's style more consistent
- An absurd amount of sound/particle/gui/animation mods for dense atmosphere
- Kind of "diegetic" interface
- In-game progression guide and mini wiki
...and more
SPOILERS:
Don't read if you don't want to spoil the experience! There IS actually one horror mod—"From the fog". The only prohibited mods for this project were "dweller-like" mods, not any horror mods. "From the fog" is the highest-quality horror mod for Minecraft, in my opinion, and doesn't ruin the atmosphere of the modpack.
FAQ:
Q1: Where do I find the in-game guide?
A1: Press "K" by default. If this does not work, go to the controls settings and find the button that opens the FTB quests tab.
Q2: I feel motion sickness because of the underwater camera effects.
A2: Remove the "Camera overhaul" mod.
Q3: I do not like X feature/mechanic in the modpack.
A3: LET ME KNOW! I always try to listen to community feedback to improve my modpack. You can message me on Curseforge or leave a comment on the modpack's page to help improve "Cold MIst")
