Out of all the "Optimization packs" out there, this is the most feature complete one. If I want to play Vanilla or make my own modpack, there's no reason not to use FO. Performance-wise it is as good as it gets, and includes all the features I would expect. Pretty much what Minecraft should be like from the get-go.
