Description

GRAVE SHIFT A zombie apocalypse that runs on a weak laptop. 50-60 FPS. I built this pack around one idea: you shouldn't need a gaming rig to play a zombie apocalypse with proper firearms.

So yes, there are 115 mods here, but around fifteen of them are pure optimization. Embeddium, ModernFix, FerriteCore, Starlight, EntityCulling, ImmediatelyFast, Saturn, BadOptimizations, Clumps, Noisium and a few more. A rewritten lighting engine, culling of mobs you can't see, memory compression. All of it picked to work together instead of fighting each other.

Straight talk about when you get those frames I'd rather explain this now than read bad reviews later.

You'll hold 50-60 FPS on a host, or in singleplayer once the world is generated. You will see drops during first-time worldgen, because Lost Cities is building entire cities and that's heavy on any machine. Give it a minute or two and it settles.

A word about Hamachi, Radmin and similar. When you play over LAN, the whole world runs on the computer of whoever opened it. That machine handles worldgen, mobs and physics for everybody. So the host needs a decent CPU and at least 8 GB of RAM. Everyone else can be on a weak laptop - they only have to draw the picture.

If nobody has a good machine, use Aternos. It's free, and the pack will run the same for everyone.

The world is built on Lost Cities Lost Cities is the foundation. Instead of a normal world it generates an abandoned metropolis - skyscraper blocks, streets, subways, basements, parking structures. Not a few huts in a field, but a real city you can walk through for hours.

Everything else is layered on top. Lost Cities Autogen and Modern Tweaks swap the architecture for something modern, Big Lost City scales up the districts, The Lost City adds its own generation along with a TaCZ plugin, and LC2H puts a horror layer over the whole thing.

Inside the city and out past it you'll find structures that extend it:

Abandoned Structures, plus dedicated aviation and yacht sets Abandoned City Buildings with furniture, decoration and horror plugins Doomsday Structures and Post Apocalypse Structures Chaosz Structures and raider camps, where the enemies are people Berezka's Structures and shelters MineTraps - traps somebody set before you got there The loot is rewritten from scratch The guns are real. The ammo is not.

Most gun-and-zombie packs just install the mods and stop. You open the first chest, find a rifle, and the apocalypse is over by day three.

I rewrote the loot economy completely - over 700 lines of hand-written LootJS rules covering every chest, every structure and every weapon tier.

Firearms are rare. Finding a working rifle is an event. Ammo is worth more than the gun it goes in, and you'll ration every magazine. Loot matches its location: sidearms and vests in police stations, rifles on military sites with guards to match, scrap in houses. Attachments aren't crafted - you take that optic off a corpse. The deeper you push into the city centre, the better the haul and the worse your odds of walking out.

Every item ID came straight out of the mod files, not guesswork. Nothing spawns broken.

The horde scales by day Zombie density isn't a fixed number. In Control! drives a nine-stage progression.

Days What shows up Group Mob cap 1-4 grace period, build something — — 5-12 zombies, husks 1-2 32 21-25 zombies, husks 3-5 40 26-30 drowned join in 4-6 43 36-40 zombie villagers join in 6-9 49 51+ everything at once 9-14 58 The first four days nobody bothers you, so use them. After that the horde grows every few days - first in numbers, then in variety. By day fifty they show up in packs of nine to fourteen instead of ones and twos.

All of it is tunable. config/incontrol/spawner.json is that same table written as numbers. Change maxhostile (the global cap), maxlocal (how many near you), persecond (frequency), amount (group size). Run /incontrol reload after editing - no restart needed.

Worth knowing: maxhostile is difficulty and performance at the same time. Most packs leave mob counts uncapped, and those mobs are exactly what eats your frames. Want more zombies? Raise it just know what you're paying with.

Weapons and gear The core is Timeless and Classics Zero: magazines, attachments, reloads, recoil. Chaosz Pack and Keerdm Zombie Apocalypse Essentials both build on it. Daffa's Arsenal adds more, and LesRaisins Tactical brings grenades, knives and breaching tools.

For gear there's Fracture Point with layered armor where the layers actually matter, Survival Instinct field equipment, Sophisticated Backpacks with upgrades and sorting, and Curios slots.

Two mods make co-op work: Corpse leaves a body holding your gear instead of scattering it, and Revive Me lets you pick a downed teammate back up.

The dead They're a system here, not scenery.

Zombies Plus adds new infected types. Zombie Awareness makes them hear and track you, so shooting draws attention and that changes how you play. Sound Attract and Sound of Fear push the same way. Scaling Mobs grows enemies alongside your progression, Mob Sunscreen takes away the feeling that daylight is safe, and InControl with Spawn Cap Control keeps density inside sane limits.

On top of that: glowing eyes in the dark, CoD Zombies style retextures, and a reworked health display.

Resources and building Create and Create Deco let you build production, not just walls. Immersive Weathering wears the world down, Bleak and Barren washes the palette out, and Refurbished Furniture makes a shelter feel lived in. Easy NPC lets you set up your own NPCs.

For convenience: JEI, Xaero's Minimap and World Map - you need a map in a city this size - and Simple Voice Chat with proximity audio, which changes everything in a dark basement.

Server version There's a separate file under Files: a ready-to-run server pack. Download, unpack, launch. No mod list to assemble, it's already tested.

That's what you want on a host. The pack runs best through a server, as I mentioned above.

Requirements Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge, Java 17, 6 GB of RAM minimum and 8 GB recommended. Built for one to five players.

If you hit broken loot, a mod conflict or an FPS drop, post it in Discord rather than the comments. I'll get to it faster there, and comments are better left for reviews.
