About

Description

Grimoires & Gears is a medium-sized modpack focusing on challenges, exploration and magic.

It is complete and playable, but the questlines are a work in progress, and there might be tweaks to balance and progression in the future.

If you play it, please send some feedback as it means a lot to me! :)

Key Features:

  • Non-linearity: G&G has three independent branches of progression: Druidry, Occultism and Tinkering. Each branch is based on several mods with a similar theme. They are balanced against each other, and every branch has its own methods of ore doubling, quarrying and processing common resources.
  • Exploration: there are many items that can only be found as dungeon loot. G&G features huge cave systems with custom ore generation, Roguelike Dungeons with customized themes, spawners and loot, overhauled Nether, explorable dimensions of Twilight Forest and Atum, Dimensional Doors and more!
  • Customized Caves: G&G features custom caves and ore generation. Ores generate in uncommon, but large veins. There are mixed veins too, and different biomes have more of certain ores. Finally, stone gets harder the deeper you go, so caving is highly encouraged.
  • Low Tech: progression is rather slow-paced, and things like flight, teleportation and ore doubling will have to be earned. A lot of effort was put to keep horses, minecarts, shulker boxes and elytras viable in the heavily modded world. There are no modular tools, but Quality Tools makes up for them.
  • Combat Challenges: on your travels you will encounter mobs with unique abilities, as well as powerful undead that can only be taken down using silver weapons, fire or magic.
  • Overhauled Villager Trading: this modpack includes a lot of custom villager trades in an attempt to make trading useful. Villagers can sell you unique items and offer services such as leather tanning.
  • Finite Water: water is finite outside of oceans and rivers. However, there is a plenty of ways to create water, so make the best of them!
  • Questing: last but not least, G&G has quests that serve as a progression guide rather than being the end goal. The quests only give an overview of the general progression, and their rewards are token.
