Hey! Like adventure? Playing with machines that shock you because OSHA doesn't exist in minecraft? Enjoy all the sorts of magic ranging from inter-dimensional, natural magics, cult-like? Got some friends that you may or may not enjoy bullying with the most random piece of wingdings in a book somewhere? Solo and want to do it all? This modpack has it all, something for everyone, detailed and many details that are both fun to discover or great to observe from a distance, be lazy, power-play, build up a tower with stuff from multiple mods and watch it all mesh together or simply be a farmhand taking care of your animals in a quiet place, the choice is yours, the fun will remain!

I'm going to keep this short and sweet, I generally don't enjoy modpacks with multiple different magic systems because they tend to be somewhat confusing/unintuitive, but this modpack has some really good quest progression, and the way it segments different kinds of magic into different "classes" if you could call it that-was fun and cool. I'm not doing it justice, read some other reviews, but really I think this was a cool creation I would recommend others try out.

Magiculture 2 is a magic focused, tech-light modpack with the technology balanced around Immersive Engineering and schools of magic divided into three gamestages, each with a selection of mods that fit together thematically. The world still “feels” vanilla, but there is distinct impression that there is more hidden under the surface. The gamestage system reinforces this feeling, locking certain mobs and ores until you start venturing into the different magic schools.
The pack uses custom world generation through a heavily modified OTG preset to create a beautiful array of terrain. From dead forests and badlands to floating islands filled with lush vegetation, everything blends together well and provides some impressive visuals. Ruins and structures dot the landscape without being too overbearing, and the treasure chests within can be lucrative, with rewards ranging moderately useful to extremely powerful. Finding a specific artifact or treasure early-game can actually influence your choices later.
The dungeon crawling experience feels rewarding. The first few floors are not very difficult and you can find torches, foodstuffs, potions and basic armors. Rarely, you will discover an artifact or health increasing item, which can be a godsend in the early stages of the pack. As you delve deeper, the difficulty increases but so do the rewards. It’s not uncommon to clear an entire dungeon and return the surface fully equipped.
Magiculture 2 boasts a massive quest book consisting of more than 1,200 quests, many of which had detailed explanations of item and mod interactions. The quests are designed to provide a fairly linear “prestige” path with a large number of branching paths detailing otherwise unused tools and items. Information in the quests is useful for both new and expert players as it ranges from the simple topics such as how to use JEI, to advanced interactions such as AE2 subnetworking and Botania Corporea.
Early game can be extremely challenging as many mobs can one-shot you, maintaining hunger levels is a constant struggle, and most tools and armor cannot be equipped or used. However, when you are at your weakest, nothing is more satisfying than opening a treasure chest and finding an extremely powerful item. Mid-game is where the pack truly shines. You have enough skill levels to use most tools and delving into the different magic mods feels like you are exploring the unknown. While treasure may not be as lucrative at this point, there is satisfaction in overcoming challenges that you previously would not have attempted. The end-game is probably where the pack is the weakest. After you have progressed through a couple of the main quest lines, there is nothing that really challenges you. Quest progression becomes completion for completion’s sake.

I've launched a personal server for this modpack for my friends three times now, and we play it for months at a time. I've even gone and played it single player as well. Our group has tried other modpacks but this is by far my favorite. I love the integration of the questline for the magic and profession roles. The magic mods are really fun and are linked in a really creative way. I really like having the professions as well, no other modpack incorporates them as well as Magiculture. For the sheer number of mods it's surprisingly not too terribly buggy. The Blood Magic seems to have the biggest issues, but nothing too game-breaking. The graphics are great as well, and the difficulty system makes it a challenge. I'm dying to see this expand and continue to grow, but until then I'll keep playing it as my number one modpack of choice.

Amazingly designed modpack. All chest loottables in structures are customized to have interesting relics and spells and other loot while not being overpowered, tons of quests are written well and serve as good tutorials for either learning mods for the first time or learning niche mechanics in already known mods, recipes are only slightly changed to make things fit better or add more recipes for items, lots of base-building and decoration options, plenty of fun mods like Thaumcraft and Embers have content addons like Thaumic Wonders and Aetherworks so there's more content than just base mods people may be used to, world generation is well done with Open Terrain Generator and has beautiful landscapes and islands in the sky, caving is fun with crates and urns and more, custom gamestage system lets you choose 2 categories of mods out of 6 to focus on with others being unlockable later which lowers world clutter and prevents being overwhelmed by too many mods at once while encouraging trading, custom reskillable perks are added to some of the categories with neat effects like small immunities to some effects or extra healing, custom villager currency and trading system makes trading fun and rewarding, and performance is way better than most packs of this size.

Some minor gripes are Animania existing, not very many dimensions in the pack(could really use Betweenlands which would fit in pack really well), and stealing hundreds of hours of your time by being way too much fun to play.

Description

omRpTqp.pngMagical Agriculture

Magiculture is a modpack that has seen a lot of different incarnations. It started as private 1.7.10 pack I made for some friends, and since then we've been through 5 different versions (but we're just gonna call this one "2"). We released one of the very first versions of the pack HERE, but we've come a long way. This version is a 1.12.2 pack, made to showcase some of the different magic and exploration mods that exist for this version. However, keeping with the spirit of the name, a good deal of agriculture mods exist too, with a light sprinkling of tech.

Here are some of the defining features of this pack:

  • Lots to explore - Roguelike dungeons, OTG, thaumcraft, astral sorcery, and nether EX add exploration features, all with custom treasure and mob spawns. Features a fully-customized version of Biome Bundle, with advanced compatibility for mods like Biomes O Plenty, Thaumcraft, Bewitchment, and Quark. Caving is new and exciting as well, featuring 100% custom ore veins through COFHworld, the better caves mod, and some new underground features.
  • Loose progression - Grow your character in a number of different ways. Gain skills (via skillable mod), allowing you to unlock use of different items as you gain experience and grow your character in different directions. Begin with 5 hearts and acquire more through exploration, questing, or trading.
  • Questing guide - Complete better questing guide designed to introduce you to different mods in the pack. All quests grant XP, allowing you to progress your character skills as you progress through various goals. The pack also features a very loose story, for those that like their character to have some purpose in the world.
  • Better trading - Villager trades have been overhauled to feel more fair and provide a wider variety of modded items. Buying/selling at a village should feel like a viable way to gain items and experience. You can use coins collected from fighting mobs to buy things too!
  • Higher difficulty - Tough as nails, rough mobs, and nutrients have been fine-tuned to add elements of difficulty and challenge to the game without feeling overbearing. (examples - nutrients allows you to gain buffs and extra health if you diversify your diet, hardcore darkness allows for high immersion but you are not completely blind when outside at night unless it is a new moon).
  • Modular class system - Choose one of 3 professions (agriculture, adventuring, or engineering) and one of 3 magic disciplines (druidity, artificing, or occultism) to shape the mods your character will progress through. After completing all major quests within those trees, you may prestige and choose additional classes. Has a great multiplayer RPG feel! Optionally, turn this off by enabling No-Class mode in the options menu with PackModes.
  • Different ways to play - Want to live on a farm, feeding animals and gathering crops to take to the market and sell for coins each week? You can gain experience that way. Want to be a dungeoneer, travelling and exploring the land, slaying monsters with your greatsword? You can gain experience that way too. Want to be a sorcerer, or a druid, or an engineer? That works also.
  • End-game rewards - After finishing all profession and magic class quests, you gain the ability to find and loot special creative spectrite gemstones. These allow you to craft creative items, at a high cost.
