Basically just take all the cool stuff from newer versions and slap it into 1.20.1, so you don’t gotta upgrade. It’s perfect for people who mod. Like, imagine playing with pale garden biomes, happy ghast, and ect without actually moving past 1.20.1. Sounds great, right? Of course, not everything gets backported exactly as it is, and sometimes mods miss a detail or two, but a great way to keep mods without updating.
