A Thousand Cuts Beneath the Waves

The Legend of the 1000 Cuts Crew

The 1000 Cuts aren’t your typical band of adventurers. There’s no grand strategy, no carefully planned victories—just a storm of blades, spells, and reckless abandon. Known throughout the seas as a roaming band of chaos, they’ve left countless battles unfinished, foes half-defeated, and dungeons in absolute disarray. If destruction had a patron deity, they would be its favorite jesters.

But every storm has its eye, and the 1000 Cuts have a goal, an impossible, ridiculous, undeniably glorious goal.

They are going to build the greatest underwater sanctuary the world has ever seen.

A floating, sprawling aquarium-city, filled with the strangest, most magnificent creatures dredged from the deep. A place where adventurers and sea monsters alike can coexist—provided they survive the crew’s dubious sense of "construction" and tendency to abandon projects midway through.

The Setting: A Sea of Chaos

The world is vast, blue, and unforgiving. Ancient shipwrecks litter the ocean floor, harboring restless spirits. Forgotten ruins sink beneath the waves, their secrets lost to time. Leviathans slumber in the trenches, dreaming of the day something foolish enough disturbs them. And across it all, the 1000 Cuts carve their path—not with purpose, but with a reckless need to see what happens if they push just a little further.

The crew sails aboard The Unfinished Oath, a ship held together by magic, sheer willpower, and more last-minute patch jobs than anyone cares to count. Each port they visit leaves behind half-constructed monuments, abandoned “brilliant ideas,” and stories so absurd no one believes them. But their ultimate destination? A sunken caldera, perfectly placed for their grand aquarium; a vision that will either become a marvel or a monument to hubris.

The Problem: Actually Finishing It

The biggest challenge? The 1000 Cuts are not great at seeing things through. For every structure they complete, there are five more left half-built, mid-experiment, or worse; turned into a monster’s nest because someone “got distracted.”

Will their aquarium-city be a masterpiece or just another ruin in the making? That depends. Can this wandering band of chaos break their own curse of unfinished business? Or will they abandon their dream just like every dungeon they never looted all the way through?

One thing is certain: whatever happens, it’s going to be an absolute mess.
