Description
Host and Bond is a Minecraft 1.20.1 Forge horror-survival modpack built around Symbiote: A Bonding Experience by kitigawa. It takes one mod's central idea — something lives inside you and protects you better than you can protect yourself — and builds a world where that bond is the whole point.
Somewhere near where you spawn, an asteroid has come down. Inside it a symbiote waits. Approach it and it bonds to you. From that moment you are never alone. Your symbiote has desires: satisfy them and it stays strong, refuse them and stress builds until it takes what it wants on its own terms. Five strains give the pack five different relationships — Predator wants the hunt, Guardian wants ground held, Shadow thrives in darkness and suffers in sunlight, Sculk hears the world move, and Royal is the apex strain that fights you for control more often than not.
Everything else exists to make that relationship matter. Alex's Mobs, L_Ender's Cataclysm and Mowzie's Mobs supply threats genuinely worth fearing, because protection only has value when the danger is real. Better Combat makes fighting something you survive rather than something you spam. Sound Physics Remastered, AmbientSounds and a single darkness mod make the world dark and audible, giving the Shadow and Sculk strains mechanical weight instead of flavour text. Structure and exploration mods ensure there is always somewhere worth travelling to, because symbiotes come from asteroids and finding one means going looking.
The rule the entire pack is built on is flat player power. No god-tier gear, no free resource generation, nothing that outclasses the thing living in your chest. The symbiote is the crutch, and every inclusion decision was made to keep it that way. If you want a power-fantasy progression pack, this is deliberately something else.
A five-chapter quest book ships with the pack and teaches the mod rather than explaining it. Chapter 0 is your first night. Chapter 1 sends you to a crater to bond. Chapter 2 branches by strain, so your objectives depend on which symbiote you took. Chapter 3 asks you to refuse a desire on purpose, in a controlled setting, so you learn the stress mechanic without losing a base to it. Chapter 4 gates the pack's best rewards behind killing a Cataclysm boss while still bonded.
Built for solo play and small co-op groups. For multiplayer it includes FTB Teams, FTB Chunks for claims and chunk loading, and Lootr, so every player gets their own loot from a structure instead of racing each other to the chests. Configs for claims, darkness, shaders and quests ship with the pack, so a fresh install behaves as intended with no manual setup.
Requirements: Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47.x, Java 17, and 6–8 GB of RAM allocated. Shaders are optional and load through Oculus, which is included; shader packs themselves aren't bundled and each player can choose their own. Client-and-server pack — install it on a server the same way as on a client, with everyone on the same pack version.
