About

Description

Have you ever wanted more difficulty in Minecraft, but every 'difficult' modpack either nerfs your options, or buffs hostiles to an 'insane' degree? With The Epic Challenge, you don't get that.

On the hostile end, enemies are tougher, carrying weapons, and much better at combat. They get stronger the longer you play, the further from spawn you are (including depth!) and at night. But it's not all bad— you have a wide variety of character creation options to give yourself advantages, as well as access to a large number of equipment buffs, upgrades, curios, and quests that will help give you an edge.

In case you prefer surprises, the rest of the details are in the wiki!

Challenges

Infection

Let's start with the big one right off the bat. Any Zombie, vanilla or modded can infect you, or villagers, illagers, and Zacians. Wearing armor can decrease the chances of infection, or you might find the legendary Ring of Infection Immunity.

Hordes

Every twenty days or so, a horde of Zombies will come for you, getting stronger each time. Build yourself some strong defenses, because these zombies can break things.

Weapons

Sure, you've seen zombies with swords before, but they just wave it at you clumsily. These zombies have swords, scimitars, scythes and more and they know how to use them, Better Combat style!

Minibosses and Elites

Mixed in with the regular hostiles, you'll find wandering Elite mobs. You'll recognize them by their nametags. So, unless your friend's name is Sir Damien the Destroyer, you're in for a fight. Located within certain structures, you'll also find Minibosses, the Elite of the Elite, Players turned Zombie!

Distance and Depth and Dawn

The farther you go from spawn or the deeper you go down, the harder the mobs get. To make things worse mobs get stronger as the night progresses.

The Moon hates you.

Due to the magic of Blood Moons, Zombie Horde Moons, Spider Moons and more, some nights are just harder than others. Don't worry though, there are Peaceful Moons when no new mobs will randomly spawn. (Spawners still work)

Advantages

Better Combat

With different fighting styles for different weapons, you're sure to find the perfect one that fits you.

Origins, Classes, and Backgrounds

Choose your Origin, Class and Background for buffs and drawbacks or for a true RP experience.

Quests

Find the Guildhalls, or make your own Quest Board and click it with a book to get quests that will give you rare rewards. Completing each of the five questlines will earn you an inherent buff such as stronger attack or an extra heart of HP.

Armor and Trims

Choose your Armor and Trims wisely, as each set of armor grants a bonus when the full set is worn, each armor material grants bonuses per piece, and each trim grants a permanent effect when applied to a full set of armor. See this page to see the potential effects.

Curios

Defeating Minibosses or completing certain quests can get you amulets, bracelets, rings and more, each of which give a permanent buff while worn. As a bonus, these curios can be further enchanted on an enchanting table or anvil.

Tiered Gear

To take it one step further, all of your gear can have buffs or debuffs when made, including weapons, tools, armor, and Curios.

Gear Upgrades

Oh no! You found a piece of Legendary gear, but it's copper. :( Never fear, your gear can be upgraded with easily craftable templates. From Wood or Leather all the way through Diamond, so you can keep that great gear to the endgame. It retains all trims and enchantments too!

Jobs

Press J to open the jobs menu. This isn't like most skill/job trees that lock items behind milestones. Instead the more you do the things you normally do, like farm, mine, or kill mobs, the more bonuses you unlock!
