About
Threads of Time is a meticulously crafted kitchensink-esque modpack focused around magitech, aimed at bringing a highly interactive and open-ended experience where magic and technology meet. Your journey will eventually culminate in the mastery of time and space, including bottling up time itself, moving space wherever you please, and the acquisition of your Archmage's Spellbook. It intends to leave vanilla mechanics and progression mostly intact while providing a wide variety of new interactions and enhancements, all magically powered.
This pack started as a learning experience in making a modpack just between me and my friends. And it turns out, I really like making modpacks! Then I thought...why not something about magitech? Somewhere between a kitchensink and a magicky tech pack? And so, this came to be.
Some Notes:
It is probably best to have at least 6gb of RAM allocated for this pack.
Please note this pack is still unfinished and there's a lot of work to do. Expect many future changes. Please give your honest feedback, after all, there's no other way to improve!
Loot pools and quests are the most unfinished aspects of the pack. Eventually these will be greatly expanded, exploration especially such to make it a more viable option up to endgame. Fabric of Time, the endgame resource, will also be expanded in the future. Please offer any and all ideas!
What makes this pack different?
Threads of Time aims to preserve the vanilla experience while integrating steps in progression with magic, namely the creation of Eyes of Ender. These will now first require a Burning Vision, made with two different methods, which then gets enchanted with Echo Shards to make an Eye of Ender.
The highlight of the modpack is Ars Nouveau, a magic mod that brings a tremendous many magical inclusions. This includes your very own spellbook, with which you can handmake your spells from glyphs that you craft from a Scribe's Table. Through the inclusion of Create, you can also set up mechanical machines beyond your wildest dreams. In this pack, these mods are bridged almost seamlessly together, magic and machine now meeting in the middle. And that's just the start, as you may also bring magic to a digital age with matter-energy storage systems from Applied Energistics 2.
Ars Nouveau, essentially, is tightly integrated with the many other mods in the pack. This is not just through compatibility, but addibility. This leads to quite a lot of cohesion. This not only includes a substantial number of recipe changes, but the expansion of Create's Ponder system to encompass Ars Nouveau and more. This means now you can Ponder far more than just kinetic things, and many more scenes will come in the future.
Similar to other kitchensink-like modpacks, the mods themselves have most of their default recipes and progression left be. However, with the many additions made, they are now deeply intertwined with each other rather than feeling completely separate. You can skip the whole step of visiting the Nether entirely for Applied Energistics 2 for example, by placing Certus Quartz in Imbuement Chambers to make Fluix Crystals!
Source, a stored form of magical power from Ars Nouveau, is also set up to be the premier source of power across the entire modpack. It's made useful not only for Ars Nouveau but also for rotational power and generating energy. It can also be stored in ME networks, allowing for mass longterm storage, and can even be liquefied for use in recipes. You must still generate Source the old fashioned way, but farming it is made much more powerful. You may also still use and distribute FE, but you may soon find powering things with magic to be even more fun.
Unlike a tech pack, none of the mods are gated behind each other, letting you explore them at your own pace while still providing a sense of interwoven progression. Acquiring every glyph from Ars Nouveau, however, requires mastery of the entire modpack. And you will find a challenge in making the coveted Time in a Bottle.
