I'm a 1.12.2 purist, but I'm also playing GTNH, so make of that what you will. I think Create was a masterpiece, which means that Createslop was inevitable.

Waila has been the gold standard of “what block is that” mods for as long as it’s existed. Hwyla was an updated fork that solved a laundry list of edge cases and odd bugs and was an autoinclude in every pack until TheOneProbe arrived to split the market, the only functional difference between the two bring their APIs and how much info is available without addons. Later, Jade arrived on the version as well, creating a “use the one you like for your use case” situation. For three nearly functionally-identical mods that compete in the same space, there’s a refreshing lack of drama about which is “better”.

Hwyla does exactly what it says on the tin: it serves a specific function without feature-creep, bloat, or drama. For proof of its stability, look at how long it’s been since it updated without anything new showing up on the issue tracker!

Hwyala inherits both of these qualities by virtue of being a Hwyla fork, and as it simply adds one extra bugfix, it serves only to help the gold standard maintain the standard of excellence it’s rightfully earned a reputation for.

Disclaimer: this is my fork and I’m hyping it, but I’m not denigrating the og: go look!

The second of the ten mods every pack on 1.12 should install, no questions asked.

The vanilla item id limit can be reached by installing a single mod in some cases. Bring the power of The Flattening to your instance and forget this problem ever existed with REID.

CraftTweaker is a powerful packdev tool, and this addon expands that capability tremendously with targeted improvements that fill in critical gaps in the base functionality.

Nothing more or less than a complete redesign of terrain generation to be a series of sky islands rather than the traditional Minecraft experience.

Like the original pack, it suffers from Fetch Quest Syndrome, has critically poor modded dimension integration, and the last chapter isn’t worth it; however, the new terrain challenges add an additional layer of complexity that make it a fun experience nonetheless.

When people talk about 'integrating mods into a pack', this is what they mean. Instead of "hey, you just unlocked Blood Magic, go play that for four hours until you get this item", this pack says "hey, you just unlocked Blood Magic, go grab these items from these other mods so you can use Blood Magic to make this item from a different mod so you can progress a little further in a third mod", and it does this for every mod.

Performance suffers a little whenever a complex CraftTweaker script fires, but this only happens on Age transitions, so just grit your teeth and then revel in your newfound power.

The last chapter isn’t worth your time, and mods like the Twilight Forest aren’t so much integrated as they are used as a rudimentary time gate, but overall the experience is solid.
