BeaconBound - Showcase

A small addon mod for Create Jetpack by possible_triangle
that restricts jetpack use to active beacon range.

📖 About 📖

The original Create Jetpack mod is amazing for building and general free movement while still keeping the feeling that you're not in creative mode. However, in some modpacks, the freedom to fly whenever and wherever can make many obstacles obsolete and reduce immersion and reward.

  • Tough combat challenge - fly away
  • Falling into lava - fly away
  • Maneuvering dimensions with void - fly over
  • Exploring anything - just fly around

This mod adds an additional lightweight restriction check to help rebalance jetpack flying.
With it you can keep the benefits of jetpack flying around your base, or set up a beacon to help with building, but you cannot freely escape every challenging scenario.

Within range of an active beacon (range size depends on its level), you can use the jetpack freely. Flying outside that range is disabled. If you exit the range while flying, a slow-falling effect will be applied until you either re-enter the range or touch the ground.

It also includes actionbar text and sound cues to notify you when you've exited the range.

📖 Performance Notes 📖

This mod needs to check whether players are within beacon range, but that check is cached and designed to stay lightweight.

Outside beacon range, the mod also reduces unnecessary jetpack-related work:

  • Server-side: the normal jetpack tick logic is skipped while the jetpack cannot be used.
  • Client-side: the Create Jetpack control/UI display is hidden outside beacon range.
  • Client-side controls: flight control/key handling is also suppressed while outside beacon range.

This is not meant to be a major performance optimization mod, but in modpacks where many players use jetpacks, disabling unused jetpack behavior outside beacon coverage can help reduce wasted ticking and UI/control work.

"Why rebalance jetpacks if Elytra exists?"
Elytra at least comes with a risk-reward system, and it can be very dangerous to use in enclosed spaces like caves, dungeons, the Nether, etc.
