About
Description
Better TreeChop turns tree felling into a real lumberjack experience. You chop the trunk, it gets thinner with every swing, the tree creaks, tips over and crashes to the ground, and the fallen trunk stays there for you to cut up piece by piece.
✨ Features
🪵 Chopping
- Every chop strips the bark and carves the log thinner, until the tree finally gives way.
- Chop any log of the trunk. When one log is fully carved, the chops move on to the next one.
- The number of chops grows with the tree's size (an oak takes about 5, a big 2×2 dark oak about 16). A better axe chops faster, just like mining.
- Other chopping styles: cracks (the trunk cracks and the cracks fade over time) or instant (one hit fells the tree).
- Shift breaks a single log the vanilla way.
🌲 Falling
- The tree creaks and sways, then falls with real rotational physics and bounces off the ground.
- It falls away from you by default. Grass and flowers under it get crushed, and mobs it lands on get hurt.
- Optional extras: bee nests fall with the tree, snow drops from winter trees, splashes in water, a domino effect where a big tree knocks over smaller ones, and leaving a stump or replanting a sapling automatically.
🪓 The fallen trunk
- After the fall the leaves scatter and the trunk stays on the ground. Hold left click to cut it log by log, at exactly the speed of mining a normal log (Efficiency and potions count).
- The trunk is solid: you can walk on it and can't walk through it.
- Options: keep the leaves on the fallen tree, turn the trunk into log blocks instead, shatter the whole tree into items, or make an uncut trunk break apart after some time.
🍃 Leaf sway
- The leaves of biome-colored trees (oak, birch, spruce, jungle, acacia, dark oak, mangrove) gently sway in the wind. The strength is adjustable.
🔧 Axe as a building tool
- Right-click a fence with an axe to connect or disconnect one side. Shift + right-click returns it to automatic connections.
- Panes, iron bars, walls and stair shapes can be enabled in the settings.
⚙️ Advanced physics (optional, off by default)
- Adjustable gravity, air drag of the crown and natural lean (trees fall towards their heavier side).
- Wind, multiple bounces, big trunks breaking into pieces on hard impact, and knockback.
- Fragile blocks (glass, torches, snow layers, flower pots) smash under the tree.
- Cut trunk pieces float on water and drift with the river current.
📊 Jade support
- With Jade installed, looking at a trunk shows how many chops are done and how many are left.
⚙️ Settings
- In-game settings screen with tabs: Mod Menu → Better TreeChop, or bind the "settings" key in Controls.
- Each option has a description when you hover over it, and there is a "Reset to defaults" button.
- The settings screen can be shown in Polish, English or the game language.
- All options are also in
config/drwal.properties, with descriptions. - Press K to turn tree felling on or off at any time.
📦 Requirements
- Minecraft 26.3
- Fabric Loader + Fabric API
- Optional: Mod Menu (settings screen), Jade (chop counter)
- Install on both the client and the server.
ℹ️ Good to know
- Leaf sway works with the vanilla renderer. Sodium and Iris use their own shaders, so the leaves won't sway with them.
- Inspired by HT's TreeChop. This is a separate, independent mod and not affiliated with it.
