Honestly, my history with BuildCraft goes way back. I played the hell out of the very first versions back when Forge didn't even exist yet (the good old ModLoader days). And I gotta say: this mod completely changed the way I look at Minecraft.

In the very beginning, there were pretty much only the pipes. But just that alone was insane. Seeing your items physically traveling through glass tubes and being able to automate your chest sorting... you could already do so much. It turned a simple block building game into actual logistics.

And man, how can I not mention the Quarry? That machine was just incredible. Placing it down, powering it up, and watching the lasers map out the area before the mechanical arm mined out entire chunks down to bedrock... it was just so satisfying.

For me, the mod really peaked in 1.7.10. Honestly, that was THE best era of Minecraft modding, period, and BuildCraft was the undisputed king at the time.

Anyway, even though there are more modern and complex tech mods out there today, BuildCraft is one of those historic mods that literally changed Minecraft forever. An absolute classic.

About

Description

The port to newer versions of minecraft is well underway - however it's not available yet. For now we'd recommend using the 1.12.2 release of BuildCraft, although some features are missing (notably robots and the builder and filler). If you'd like to use either of those then you can use the 1.7.10 releases instead. For somewhat regular updates please see the roadmap page on buildcraft's website.

A backport to 1.10.2 (or 1.11, 1.13, 1.14, 1.15, 1.16, 1.17, 1.18, or 1.19) is not currently planned. The reasons for this are outlined here, here, here, here, here, here and here.. Asking us is unlikely to make us reconsider - however, BuildCraft is open source and you're welcome to do it yourself if you really need buildcraft for any of those versions.

Feel free to join our discord if you want to chat/hangout or have an issue with BC: https://discord.gg/v4geqgA

Pipes
The major feature of BuildCraft is the pipes. Pipes are used to transport items, fluids, and mechanical energy between inventories/machines. There are many different types of pipes all with unique functions, including Wooden, Cobblestone, Stone, Sandstone, Iron, Gold, Diamond, Emerald and Obsidian. Pipes can be combined with Pipe Sealant to allow them to make Fluid Pipes that can transport liquids or with Redstone to make Kinesis Pipes to allow them to transport mechanical energy.

BuildCraft 7 is a great BuildCraft release, bringing additions and improvements in almost every area of the mod. Here are some highlights:

  • Modularization is back, for those pack developers who need a smaller subset of our functionality.
  • A fresh, new look by CyanideX! (Excluding robots. Those have, sadly, been delayed - due to time issues - but will make it to a later Stable release.)
  • Optimizations to fillers, builders, pipes, robots and other parts of the mod.
  • Pipes: round robin sorting in diamond pipes, weighting in diamond fluid pipes, massive stripes pipes powers, improved pipe rendering and colors!
  • Recipes: more expensive lists, less expensive pipe plugs
  • Silicon: New Assembly Table and Integration Table, ACT replaced by a CraftPacket-inspired Packager+Stamper system
  • Factory: Tanks get comparators now!
  • Robotics: New Zone Planner, improved trigger/action logic, fancy robot animations.
  • Paintbrushes! For some reason.
  • Tons of other little improvements and additions that would take up too much space.

BuildCraft 7 has some changes you might want to watch out for:

  • Generally, your world and map will work fine and upgrade properly bar a few exceptions. However, downgrading is impossible.
  • If you have any custom config options, the config format and filename changed for both BC and Compat, so look into those.
  • The Quarry is now in the Builders module, as opposed to BC 3.x and below when it was in the Factory module.
  • Robots now only pull items and fluids out from wooden or emerald pipes.
  • Drop Items in Pipe has been combined with Accept Items.
  • The Crafter robot has been removed as it was deemed to be useless.
  • Flower harvesting from Robots has been removed due to bugs it caused.
  • Lava in the Combustion Engine doesn't burn (!?) anymore. Use the Stirling Engine.
  • The Advanced Crafting Table is deprecated, but not removed yet. You might want to upgrade your setups.
  • You can no longer put Lists inside Lists. Listception.

BuildCraft - the all-encompassing transport/mining/building/power mod of the pre-1.6 era. Originally created by SpaceToad, it has received contributions from the who's who of notable modders and is now maintained by AlexIIL.

Source code for really old versions is available here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/buildcraft/

Not all versions are features as part of this project! Some are available in modular form only, as part of the projects below. For this and licensing information, refer to the table below:

  • (2) - Mostly public domain as per (1), but include contributions by hawkye and plashal whose licensing status is unknown.
  • (3) - These may also be mostly public domain, however the source code history for these versions is lost.
  • (4) - All licenses listed apply.
  • (5) - All versions after 7.99.20 include the compat module inside the all file

This project is the non-modular, or "combined" version of BuildCraft, with every module except Compat. If you want to download only specific modules then you'll need to go to these module projects:

  • Core containing the wrench, gears, wooden engine, and a few other things that the other modules make use of. You always need this!
  • Builders has the Architect Table, Builder, Filler, and a few related things for building in-world.
  • Energy has Oil and Fuel, as well as Stirling and Combustion engines.
  • Factory containing the pump, tank, mining well, autoworkbench, etc.
  • Transport containing pipes!
  • Silicon contains logic gates, a laser system and laser tables to make more advanced items.
  • Robotics contains robots!

The following modules are separate from BuildCraft itself before 7.99.20, and as such serve the role of add-ons:

  • Compat for enhanced compatibility with other mods.

There's also a separate Lib module, containing only code used by the rest of buildcraft. You only need to download it if another mod requires it but you don't have Core/All.
