To put it simply, carry on is a makeshift backpack mod except for blocks and entities, you can now basically be an enderman! sounds cool right?...

And while i would really want to end my review there, i do have a thing or two i wanna talk about this mod and it's issues

First of all, it's a good mod, it's very convenient for basic vanilla+ experience and maybe some more in-depth storage mods as this can be helpful if you don't have backpacks, wants to transport villager, etc, it does it's job...

However....

Second of all... this mod has a really really bad compatibility with a lot of mods/blocks sometimes, i don't like saying it's game breaking, but when you have a kitchen sink pack and this mod, and you accidentally picked up something like interdimensional chronospherical spacetime singularity multihatch perfect overclocking convertible digital controller, your whole game just gives up and you may or may not lost your block and has to redo everything to craft it again, and will eventually just tend to make people end their runs or cheat, and as you may or may not see with the other reviews, this mod breaks in a lot of cases, not just kitchen sink custom kubejs block, it breaks with a lot of tech mods, it breaks with certain custom renderings, it breaks with machines, it breaks with this, it breaks with that, like, this mod is just not worth it to fix it's compatibilities because it has so many, compared to Mekanism cardboard (which still has certain issues but it works better somehow)...

And while that's really all i can say with this mod, it has been a part of a lot of my older playthroughs, compatibility issues does made this mod hard to be added to my new and newer modpack experiments that doesn't like having it's machine broke, so yeah, unfortunate

On 1.12.2, this is a pretty awesome mod that works correctly

On 1.20.1 i had major issues with Carry On. About 90% of all server crashes were caused by bugs with Carry On

On 1.16.5 we had to remove it cause it didnt play well with magma (honestly understandable)

You come to a chest (with selected hotbar slot empty and offhand slot empty), you pick up the chest/furnace/whatever, carry it while it's visibly in your hands and then you drop it where you want it.

Simple and natural. The best kind of mod.

It's very difficult for me to play modded MC without this mod, it feels integral now. I have lots of memories of basing with friends early game only to move our base quite far, and all of us would grab a chest and run to the new base spot. Something about that feels so immersive and fits right into MC.

Unfortunately for some reason this mod has had so many issues over the years in multiple MC versions. Something always happens to break with it or a mod is incompatible. Many of these issues have been fixed overtime but I'm always on edge when including this in a modpack. Make sure to do some testing.

Description

Carry On

Ever wonder why you can carry a stack of 64 empty chests in your pocket, but you can’t move a filled one with your bare hands? Well, wonder no more!

Carry On is a simple mod that improves game interaction by allowing players to pick up, carry, and place single block Tile Entities (such as Chests, Furnaces, Droppers, Spawners, and your favorite machines from other Tech Mods) using only their empty hands. No items (or pickaxes) required. States, meta data, inventory and NBT data are retained. It also allows you to carry around smaller mobs!

How it Works:

  • Shift (can be rebound) + Right-Click (with two empty hands) on any Tile Entity or mob to lift and carry
  • Right-Click to place

Other features:

  • Works with single block Tile Entities from any mod (yes, tech mods too)
  • Works with all entities (no hostile mobs in survival mode, configurable)
  • Entities can be stacked on each other (only smaller entities on top of larger ones)
  • Respects the ‘lock’ functionality so Tile Entities cannot be stolen
  • Powerful config allows you to blacklist entire mods or specific blocks, and additional customization
  • Players can only carry one Tile Entity or Mob at a time, and are prevented from other actions when carrying
  • Carrying a Tile Entity or Mob slows the player. Items with fuller inventories and larger mobs will cause additional slowness
  • Advanced scripting for modpack creators. Wiki here.
  • If you can't place down a picked-up block, you can remove it from your inventory with /carryon clear
  • Players can also be carried, in 1.19.2+

Config Options:

  • Carry On provides a powerful config file, wiki here
  • Specific blocks or entire mods can be blacklisted
  • An option to carry standard blocks (e.g., Dirt) can be enabled (Default = Off)

Questions:

  • Will you backport this to 1.7.10? No.
  • Is this mod dead? No.
  • Are you gonna update to version X? Yes, but real life comes first. I will update eventually. Be patient.

Known Issues:

  • Armor still animates when carrying a Tile Entity
  • Arrows shot into player aren't rendered on player when carrying

Modpacks:

Please feel free to use this mod in any modpack, public or private. There is no need to notify or ask us, please just mention Tschipp and Purplicious_Cow in the pack if you do make it public, and link back to this forum post.
